Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored. He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword. His truth is marching on.
[Narrator]
True fellowships cannot be more spiritual than the individuals and families that constitute them. God greatly desires a godly home. These are words of restoration and instruction in righteousness from Family Life Ministry. May ye be blessed as you've listened.
[Speaker 1]
Today, I want us to look at something very briefly, then we'll go into prayer. Something that constantly occurs to me and just to make you see how much we really need to depend on God as I start to do some recollections before we go into our prayer today. I want us to read the Scripture, but I want to be brief with it. Maybe what we cannot finish up when we meet at two weeks Monday, we may dwell more on it, if the Lord so permits. I just want to share briefly today and conclude, then we'll conclude it.
Now, look at this analogy. Today, if we have a man who did not give his life to Jesus, is not born again. There is no born-againness experience. But perhaps it is possible that that man never committed any sin. Do you understand what I mean by committing sin now? The outward act of sinning, breaking the laws of God. He never committed any sin. He's able to move through. There's no lie, there's no immorality, there's no fornication. I mean, somebody who is entirely morally sound. We all know that if that person remained in that cycle and the person died, where is he going?
[Speaker 2]
Hell.
[Speaker 1]
Why? Do we all agree that it's the same? Some of us have reservations? Is there any reservation about that?
[Speaker 2]
No reservation.
[Speaker 1]
Why is he going to hell?
[Speaker 2]
Because there's no Christ.
[Speaker 1]
Because there's no Christ. Which means that—I don't know which of our discussions when we referred to all of these things. I think we were looking at eternal life, I can't remember. Which means that what makes him a sinner is not the sin, isn't it? It's not the sin. So a sinner is not a sinner because he sins. Rather, he sins because he is a sinner. Isn't it? So a sinner sins because he's a sinner. So it's not the sin that makes the sinner. It is the sinner that makes the sin. So even if it does not bear any fruit, the mango is still a mango tree. So he is a sinner.
Now, I'm going somewhere about dependence on God. Now, if you also look at the righteous man, it's the same thing. Salvation is in Christ. Salvation is not in works. I'm not praying, I'm not coming to church, I'm not going evangelizing so that Jesus will save me. No, that's not what saves you. So it's not because I don't tell a lie, that's why I'm righteous. No. What makes me righteous is that there is Christ in me, the hope of glory. So the good works, the righteousness or whatever that I do, just like a sinner sins because he's a sinner, a righteous man does righteousness because he's righteous. So it's not the fruit again that makes the tree, isn't it?
Now, if we draw the line backward and go down the memory lane, the matter we are drawing is that subsequently after Adam, every man that is born is conceived in sin. Isn't it? But in Adam, he was not conceived in sin. Rather, as it says in Romans 5:12, by one man, sin entered the world, and death by sin, so sin passed unto all men, for that all have sinned. So sin entered through Adam. And Adam being a federal character, that is a type of Christ. So everybody in Adam are sinners, just like everybody in Christ are righteous.
Of course, this is a great mystery. We talk about the mystery of iniquity and the mystery of righteousness. But the point we are trying to draw this evening about the matter we have been discussing about prayer: if man in Adam was not conceived in sin, and yet that man was susceptible to be deceived by the devil, are you following me? Number two, there was also a man who was not deceived but could be influenced by a woman. Are you understanding me?
What do you think today of men who are conceived in sin and their vulnerability to fall at the petition of the devil? Their vulnerability to fall as a result of the action of another man. Adam fell because he listened to Eve. Eve fell because she was deceived. These were people that were not conceived in sin. The glory of God was on them. Now, we are conceived in sin. We got born again, and we are going on in our born-again life, choosing to walk in the spirit and not in the flesh.
The point I'm trying to make you see is that, if man in that glory—look at the level of fellowship that was going on between Adam and God—and yet there could be an interruption somewhere. Does it not point to you how much we need God today? Does it not point to you how much we need God? Does it not point to you how much we need to bury our life into God, depend on God? Does it not explain to you today why the average man will tell you that, wo, omo 'fese n s' amese, kosi eni ti o le wo, elese ni gbogbo wa? Does it not tell you why everybody feel that we cannot overcome sin?
Is it not a sign that we really don't understand how much we need God to really be overcomers? We really need so much of God to truly overcome. The average Christian today struggle with one sin or the other, as though he concluded we cannot but sin. And I've heard so many things. When we want to do anything, they say, "Look, wo, eni to ba re wo elese ni gbogbo wa, ka enikan ma so pe oun fe punish enikan. Abi ki Olorun ko ran wa lowo." Everybody knows that somehow, somewhere, I have my own.
But do you see? It makes me see something clearly, that your generation don't understand something. At the opening of the Kingdom, what the Lord said is, "Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of God." [Matthew 5:3] We are so rich in spirit. We have a sense of sufficiency. We don't realize our level of poverty, our level of depend—how much we need to depend.
Let me show you the level of dependence a little from another direction. The other direction is that when God himself put on flesh and he came down, understanding the nature of the flesh. His own flesh is not in sin. His own flesh was a body that was prepared for him. Do you get that? Because we know that it was not by Joseph that Mary had Jesus. What you call the immaculate conception has become another matter again among some group of worshippers today.
But the point I'm making is that when he put on this flesh, please, to what extent did he pray? He prayed and prayed and prayed. He was God very God, putting on man very man. But immediately he put on this man, he realized how much there must be dependence on the Godhead, the Father, and the Spirit. There was so much dependence, so much dependence that early in the morning, before the morning, he would go pray. He was in so much solitary place to pray. Sometimes a great while before morning, he would be there. He would pray and pray and pray and pray. He wanted to choose the twelve; he prayed all night. He started praying forty days, fasting and praying.
Please, ordinarily, does he need such dependence? Is it not God inside God? Now, if God inside God is that dependent, please, where is man conceived in sin? I'm just pointing my eyes to why victorious Christian living is eluding the church today. We don't realize how much we need God. We don't realize how much we need—we are no widows. We are not friends at midnight. We think we are friends during the day, ati iyo o ba ta, a si lo omo'ba breadi wa nikan. We don't realize that it's midnight; we cannot get that kind of bread elsewhere. We don't realize how much we need God. How much we—[speaking in tongues].
I don't know how best to convey this message to you. But the picture the Lord gave me is something like this. I saw in a revelation something like—I don't know how—sometimes a revelation, you don't know how to describe it. Like John said, it looked like a lion, the face of a bear, so you don't really know how best to describe the thing. But I saw this creature. It looks like a fly, or maybe a spider. Again, maybe like a cockroach. This creature, the creature was just—how do I describe it? You know your standing fan? The blade is inside something like a protector to avoid the blades from injuring people. That thing on the head. You know that protector that is around the blade? You can remove the outer one and leave the inner one. You know the outer one, they normally lock it up on the inner one. A clip that you can clip it. But you can remove that outer one so that you can clean the blade, and then you put it back again.
So, I saw this creature. It was inside that—you know it would now have the hole at the middle that after you've removed the outer head of the fan, there will be the hole that it used to key with that head of the blade. That hole. It's like they put that fan protector on the floor. They now put the insect at that middle, that hole. But unlike that now, it looks like you will now have several spokes that goes, that goes. In that revelation, it now looks like that insect, for the insect to survive, for the insect to live, there was a condition that the insect must cover that path at once. You see all those things that goes like the spoke? They now looking like a path of purpose, a path. Different things that the insect must achieve. And he has to do them in a very short time.
So the insect will be... and the insect again was like a snail. But it has to start to go [vocalizing fast speed] and be back in a very short while or else it will die. But the movement again is like that of a snail. I don't know whether you get what I'm trying to explain at all. It was a revelation. So as I was wondering that like a spider, like a cockroach, like this, like a snail, it was supposed to walk all of—I was just wondering. The thing was taken away. Then the Lord now spoke to me.
He said, "That is the circumstance of a man's life. There is nothing under heaven by which he can do that by himself, except an external power comes into it. Except a power takes it up. A power. But by itself... something must take up that and then make it [vocalizing fast speed] and follow all those spokes and then bring it back to that spot, and then it survive." And he said, "Son, that is the state of the Christian life. Except men understand how much they need to depend on the Lord for him to work in them both to will and to do, they will amount to nothing because of themselves they can do nothing. Of themselves they can do nothing."
So, do you realize? Is there a sense of realization that you are poor and needy? The matter of your survival, you don't have what it takes. You don't have it. Your intelligence, your spiritual gifts that you have been given, if you isolate them—all that is in Jesus, he could not isolate himself from the Father. Could he? He could not. There was this constant dependence such that if you read John 5:19—can somebody check it for me? 5:12 and 19. If I'm very, very correct, but if you read it, I will know whether I'm correct. John 5:12, John 5:19.
[Speaker 2]
Then they asked him, "What man is that which said unto thee, 'Take up thy bed and walk'?"
[Speaker 1]
No, no, it's not 5:12. Read 19.
[Speaker 2]
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, the Son can do nothing of himself but what he seeth the Father do; for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise."
[Speaker 1]
The Son can do nothing of himself but what he sees the Father doing, and whatsoever the Father is doing, that is what the Son do likewise. I want to get the other verse. There is one in 5:30. "I can of my own self do nothing. As I hear, I judge." Okay, let's get that out of 30. "I can of my own self do nothing. As I hear, I judge. And my judgment is just because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."
Do you see something? In the first one, the Son can do nothing of himself. In the next one, he said, "As I hear." Are you seeing dependence? Are you seeing dependence? The dependence is solid. There is this solid dependence. And that is what I want to point to you, that when we realize how poor and needy we are, the Kingdom of God will be ours. [speaking in tongues] The people who will get the Kingdom, who will experience the Kingdom, who will walk in the Kingdom, who will live in the Kingdom, who will live by the Kingdom, who will have an experience of the Kingdom in their life, are the poor in spirit.
So indeed, we are poor and needy, and I pray we deeply realize how much we need God. Amen. It is a realization. It is not just the words we are saying. [vocalizing fast speed] What speed does he want? That snail. That snail that's like a snail. After thirty minutes, he would have done something. He would have finished just one of the spoke. One. So, that's it. That's how it is. No, there is this sense of dependence on the Lord. So as we pray this evening, I want us to start praying. As we pray this evening...
