[Choir singing "Glory to the Lamb"]
[Speaker 1]
Church and fellowships cannot be more spiritual than the individuals and families that constitute them. God greatly desires a godly home. These are words of restoration and instruction in righteousness from Family Time Ministry. May you be blessed as you listen.
I wish that if we are to look under the standing, the foundation will be correct because we are looking at it that if the foundation is destroyed, there is very little that the righteous can do. As it says in Psalm 11:3. And so we should be careful particularly how we get into, how we prosper, how we attain. What is the—there is this adage among Yoruba, they say, "Isale oro ma n se kini kan." Isale oro ti e, se o ni egbin abi isale, t'e ba wo t'e ba wo de isale? If you are to examine it to the bottom, if you are to check the foundation, it was built ungodly.
That was the matter we looked at so seriously that day, and we came to a point that one thing that cannot be compromised is that for everybody whose heart is perfect towards God, God will keep their feet. You see, He will keep the feet of His godly ones as we see in 1 Samuel 2:9. But everybody who is not like that, the Bible says He will make the wicked to perish in darkness. He will make the wicked to perish in darkness.
And as we try to journey a little further beyond that point today, I want us to look at something in the Parable of the Garment. When the master of the house wanted to organize a wedding banquet for the son and then people were told to—he chose some people to go to the street and gather men. We'll find that in Matthew 22. Matthew 22. Let's see Matthew 22 from verse 1. Let me read from the Amplified translation.
[Speaker 2]
And again, Jesus spoke to them in parables, comparisons, stories used to illustrate and explain scenes. "The kingdom of heaven is like a king who gave a wedding banquet for his son and sent his servants to summon those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they refused to come. Again, he sent other servants saying, 'Tell those who are invited: Behold, I have prepared my banquet. My bullocks and my fat calves are killed and everything is prepared. Come to the wedding feast.' But they were not concerned and paid no attention. They ignored and made light of the summons, treating it with contempt, and they went away, one to his farm, another to his business. While the other mistreated the servants shamefully and put them to death. Hearing this, the king was infuriated and he sent his soldiers and put those murderers to death and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding feast is prepared, but those invited were not worthy. So go to the highways,'"—that's what King James used, the highway. Amplified used the thoroughfares but the highway—"'where they leave the city, where the main road and those from other countries end, and invite to the wedding feast as many as you can find.' And those servants went out onto the crossroads and got as many as they found, both bad and good."
[Speaker 1]
I gather that every time when God want to replace something, He use things that is less worthy and God will use to replace what initially He would have wanted to use. And that thing will serve God's purpose. I gather that every time when people who are supposed to work for God don't work, how God can replace them because the purpose of God must be fulfilled. If God has something to do and God says you do it, and you begin to give excuse and you begin to, maybe because of your fear, because of your ethnic group, because of your personality, you excuse yourself away. That purpose of God will still be done. God will raise somebody else to do it than for God to stop His purpose. God will replace the vessel so that purpose will be done. Nobody can hold God to ransom.
But that is not where we are going. They went to the street. They went to gather people. People gathered. When the king—please, who asked them to go and gather people, both bad and good? The same king. Now, telling you that if you feel that because of certain grace or gift in your life, you are indispensable, God can still replace you. You know when you say bad and good, it means the ones that were coming next, they were not as okay as the ones they invited before. Do you understand what I'm trying to say? But if what we think to be okay begins to misbehave, begins to not to fit themselves into God's plan, God can raise what look as if cannot do it. What look like this one is not even gifted, this one is not an orator, this one is not—do you understand me? People who look like they cannot fit into that work and you'll be surprised, they will do it. They will do that work of God. They will do it excellently. That's why He said many are called but few are chosen.
But that is not the lesson I want to bring into today. What I want to draw here is when the king came in and the Bible said he looked intently. Matthew 22, Parable of the Wedding Garment. When the king came in and he looked intently at the guest and he saw a man without the wedding garment. That is what we want to look at. That is what we want to discuss. Now, let's ask ourselves some crucial questions. The man being in the banquet, is that the problem? Because they want as many as could come. So the man being in the number is good, that the man is in the number. But what was the problem? Is it the problem of what? The wedding garment.
And what was the question? Please, I'm going to try all translations. What was the question? What was the question that the man asked? "Friend, how did you come in here without putting on the appropriate wedding garment?" Let's try as many translations as possible. I want you to see the repetition of something. Amplified?
[Speaker 2]
And he said, "Friend, how did you come in here without putting on the appropriate wedding garment?"
[Speaker 1]
Without putting on the appropriate wedding garment. Another translation, NLT?
[Speaker 2]
The Message: He said to him, "Friend, how dare you come in here looking like that?"
[Speaker 1]
"How dare you come in here looking like that?" Yes, another translation?
[Speaker 2]
King James: "And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment?"
[Speaker 1]
Any other translation we can find again?
[Speaker 2]
Easy-to-Read: "Friend," he asked, "how does it happen that you are here without a wedding garment?"
[Speaker 1]
"How does it happen that you are here without a wedding garment?" Now, please, would it have been different if he said, "Why are you here without the wedding garment?" What would have been the difference?
[Speaker 2]
The person would have been able to give a reason, explain in a way why the guest is unable to come in wedding garment. But now it's the "how". It is abnormal.
[Speaker 1]
You were not supposed to be here at all. How did you enter? You are not supposed to enter. Probably there was supposed to be a security check at the entrance. So the question "how" is not that "why". The question is not "why" because the man expected the fact, not the normal thing. The person without the garment, if it is "why", that means they were allowed to come in. Only they want to know the reason why you couldn't get the garment. But in this place, how? You are not supposed to come here as long as you don't have the garment.
Are we following this discussion very well? So the question of "why" relates to what? While the question of "how" relates to what? "Why" in English, "why are you here without this?", "how are you here without this?" "Why" talks about the reason. "How" talks about the process. The process. The manner. The manner of entry.
Perhaps there is a security check where when you get there, they will check you then maybe they will now give you the pass, which is the garment. The garment is the pass itself. So maybe the person didn't follow security check. Like she said, maybe the person jump through the window, the wall. So he didn't go through where everybody enters through. So the question—don't forget that the feast was for as many as could come.
Look, let me tell you, God have sufficient. God has plenty. There's nothing with which God cannot bless a man. If it is money, the gold and the silver, they belong to Him. If it is—there is nothing. God owns all things. So the question that relates to a man is not "why" are you inside? But God has an issue with man, "how did you come?" How? How?
You see, God will not ask you, "why are you educated?" God will ask you, "how did you get the certificate?" God will not ask you, "why are you married?" because you're supposed to be married. God will ask you how did you get your husband or your wife. Are you understanding me? The question of God in the matter of the kingdom is not a question of "why". It's a question of "how".
How? How? You see, that tells you something that with God, there is always a pass somewhere you must collect if you enter correctly. There is a pass somewhere such that even though they are different people, there is a common denominator which is the garment. Even though they are different, they are different kind of people. He said both bad and good. So maybe some of them they are handicapped, some are physically challenged, there are different things going on. But the question is not that, "you physically challenged person, what are you doing here?" He has said go and gather all kinds of people. But there is something that makes all of them common. There is a common denominator. What I'm saying is that we can think of different lives. You can talk of different denominations. You can speak of different kind of operations. The Bible says that there are different kinds of operations but the same Spirit. He says there are divers manifestations but it's the same God that work all in all.
There is a something that is a common denominator. Something that if it is not there, even though you are in the banquet, you seem to be enjoying the things of God, the provisions of—what they were eating was God's provision. There will be a question that will require added justification or condemnation and that question is that, "no, everybody that gets into this place regardless of their diversity and their differences, there's a common denominator. They are wearing the garment." So "how?"
So the question would be, the man was speechless because he wouldn't know exactly what to answer because ordinarily he would know exactly what to say. How did you get here? Do you know why he was speechless? He knew. There is a correct way to take. There is a way everybody came in through that he didn't follow through.
If there was an explanation to give—let me give you an instance. I was invigilating an exam. I was invigilating the exam, I noticed a quick movement by a student, so I became suspicious. Normally when I suspect a student like that, what I do is to move very, very far away from the student so that he will not know that I want to observe him from afar. Because when you stay around the student, he will behave correctly. So if the student is in somewhere there, I just leave that I move to that other extreme and I'll be looking at nothing else but the student so he can continue freely with what I noticed.
So when I noticed that about the student, I move very, very far away. It's a long hall. Much more the levels of student they brought, 400 level, accounting students. They were mixed, 200, so they were mixed. So I move very, very far away, it's a big hall for our students. So I began to observe that student intently from afar. So I noticed that the material he was using to write the exam is in between the booklet. So having gotten what I wanted, I just walk as if I'm still trying to observe other people, as if I'm not coming to him. So I check other people so he was just busy writing. So as he was writing, unsuspecting me, I just took the booklet and I remove the material he was using to answer the question. Immediately. Just knelt down.
Now, I don't know whether you understand. Just knelt down, 400 level, in unison. I didn't say anything. I did not—do you understand what? I want you to make you understand why the man was speechless. Do you understand me? There are certain thing that when you are caught in the act, you don't try to—you are just speechless. That was the state of the man. That was the state of the man.
Now, you see, the point I am drawing our attention to is the fact that more often when God want to question you in anything that presently you seems to have in your life, the question of God is always "how?" How? Yes, you got this thing, but how? There is always—God don't have—let me put it this way to make it very simple—the word both of them used. There is always a pass somewhere you must collect if you enter correctly. There is a pass somewhere such that even though they are different people, there is a common denominator which is the garment. Even though they are different, they are different kind of people. He said both bad and good. So maybe some of them they are handicapped, some are physically challenged, there are different things going on. Look at the way these tiles are. What is the common thing about these tiles in terms of their arrangement? Can we look at the floor? What is the common thing about their arrangement? Is that they are aligned. Is that not? Whether you look at it—whether you make this one horizontal, they are aligned. Whether you make it vertical, they are aligned, they are aligned.
Now, there is this revelation I shared back with some of us and I want to share it again because I just saw God call my mind back to something as we are discussing this this evening. Either I had this revelation and I saw a man fixing tiles. Who was in that meeting when I shared this revelation? Revelation of a man fixing tiles. Okay, maybe none of you was in the meeting, or maybe it's not in our own meeting, I don't know. The man was fixing tiles, he was fixing the tiles. So as he was fixing the tiles, I noticed that some of the tiles were not aligned. They must align, you know, the line must straight, must meet the marks. You know the tiler, you make it—some of the tiles were not aligned. So you see the tiler, what will he do? He will hit it, to make sure it's aligned, then move and then.
So some of the tiles were not aligned. So the man making—working on the tiles was now trying to move the tiles to be aligned, trying to hit it to be aligned. But as he was doing that, you know how revelation looks like? You know, to look physical, to look spiritual you are having a revelation. Some of the tiles were moving. They moved and then they were forming the straight line. Either vertical or horizontal, they were moving. Then some of the tiles, he tried to move them. He tried to move them, he moved, he moved.
So I now noticed that those tiles, the cement under them has solidified. While the ones under those other ones were not solidified so they could move. So the tiles, those ones that solidified, he moved and moved and moved, they could not move. And he wanted them to be on that line. So the ones that were soft were moved, were moved, the other ones did not move. Having tried and tried and tried and they did not move, the man now took a hammer. Now broke—those tiles were broken. Just broke them, broke them, broke them, broke them. So he now brought fresh tiles. He now began to fix them, so those ones were aligned. He was now fixing them according to that mark. Then the revelation was taken away.
Now, from our discussion now what we are saying is clear about the tiles. Do you get the point I'm making? It's clear. But from that revelation, what I got was look, the foundation of God standeth sure, it has a seal. The standard of God is sure. As it says in 2 Timothy 2:19. When they say the word of God is sure, it abides forever. You can't shake it, you can't move God, you can't give a good reason for God to change His word. So it stands sure. The mark is set. While certain lives are aligned with the mark, some lives are not aligned.
But blessed is the life that the cement under have not solidified. Blessed is the man that have a broken spirit. Blessed is the man that has a sense, a sense of repentance, Godly repentance. Blessed is the man that have the humility to learn. Blessed is the man that does not quench the spirit or silence the voice of grace. Blessed is the man that is open to the Holy Ghost to say, "my son, my son, my daughter, this thing is not correct." Blessed is the man who does not harden his conscience against truth.
You know there are times Holy Ghost will be pointing truth to you, but because it's not convenient, you will know but you will be, you will even become—you will be using what I call bold face, not boldness. You know a bold face is the face of the wicked who knows the truth but want to carry a an appearance that all is well even though he knows that—I hope you get the point I'm making. I don't know whether you experience this thing, maybe for example you offended a small boy. So but you didn't know, maybe the boy just—you just slap the boy, "Why did you take this thing?" The boy now says, "Uncle, uncle, I'm not the one that took it. It is Godwin, I'm not the one that took it." If you want to be humble, you will say "Ah, I'm sorry." But if you want to use bold face, "I know, I okay, it's not you, but why are you standing with him? Why are you beside him?" You'll be looking for something. You will know that the correct thing you ought to say is that "I'm sorry." But you'll be looking for something to say "Heh, that even serves you right, why is he your friend?" That is not the issue on ground.
The issue on ground is it wasn't the boy that did wrong. But all you are doing there is that inside is perforated. You are looking for something to cover. So it's bold face, it's not boldness. Truth is bold. It's not boldness, it's bold face. You just put up a face. You are putting up a face, an appearance, a façade of appearance. Now, what I'm trying to say is that blessed is the man who does not put on the face of the wicked when the spirit of grace is pointing at matters. When the Holy Ghost is saying "this thing, adjust it, this thing, hmm." And you know.
Blessed are those who are movable, if they will admit truth and they will throw away all façade appearance, all smoke screen and do what is right. And do what is right. That man, before he was asked, "why are you here without the garment?" He knew there was a problem with his entrance. Do you understand me? He knew that—everyone is wearing something. If everybody is wearing white and you are wearing green, don't you better know that your own is green? Won't you know that this thing is green? If everybody is in a place and they are wearing blue, black, blue, black and yellow, and you are wearing blue, black and green, won't you know?
You see, as we as we try to to cap our discussion this evening, the what I want to refer you to very specifically is a scripture in the Psalms. Psalm 34. Are you there? Are we there together? Psalm 34. Are we there? I will read from verse verse 9. What does it say?
[Speaker 2]
"O fear the Lord, ye His saints: for there is no want to them that fear Him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing."
[Speaker 1]
Other translation, NLT. Let's hear NLT.
[Speaker 2]
"Fear the Lord, you His Godly people, for those who fear Him have all they need. Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing."
[Speaker 1]
Amplified.
[Speaker 2]
"O fear the Lord, you His saints, revere and worship Him, for there is no want to those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him. The young lions lack food and suffer hunger, but they who seek, inquire of and require the Lord by right of their need and on the authority of His word, none of them shall lack any beneficial thing."
[Speaker 1]
Do we have The Message?
[Speaker 2]
"Worship God if you want the best. Worship opens doors to all His goodness. Even strong lions get weak and hungry, but those who go to the Lord for help will have everything they need."
[Speaker 1]
Look at this scripture. We have related the matter the matter of "how". Matter of "how" very centrally. Look at this scripture. There was a time we were in this meeting, I'll make reference to this scripture. I don't know which time. But it just came back to me like the flash of a light, that we need to remind ourselves again that all we need to meet our need is the fear of God. All we need to meet our need is the fear of God. While it may look like there are several other methods by which needs can be met. Can we mention some methods? There are several alternatives to meeting needs. How we mention some about Nigeria? We are very peculiar here. Use your head, you use your work to earn. Falsehood, you can use. Falsification of record. There are so many. Diabolical means. There are so many things to—if you want to take the list, the list is endless. Am I correct? The list is endless.
But a common thing to all the needs, to all these alternatives, is that you have to set God aside to use them. You have to set God aside to use them. If you don't set God aside, what's the other one? You explain God into it to use them. Do you understand me? Very funny combination for example. "Ore ofe Oluwa bi epalol." Do you understand me? Ore ofe Oluwa bi epalol. It's the grace of God. Even though it is epalol. It is the grace of God that make the palace to come. Now, I'm trying to use some combination. I'm using sometimes we try to explain God into something. Or either we set God aside.
One is to set God aside, is to forget God. The other one is to explain God into it. What's the third one? Is to ignore God. That is the first one, you forsake Him, you forget Him. What's the third one? Is to think God is fine. That's the first one, you forsaken Him. There are three ways in which we do this, any of those three things must be common. You either forget or forsake God. Or as somebody said, I remember writing final exam then as a student in my University of Benin, and I saw the sister cheating and then after the exam I went to meet her. It was her second semester final exam. I said Sister Gloria, I saw you. She said Bro Wally, final year, second semester exam. What else you expect me to do? Second semester, second semester. Bro Wally, second semester, final year, second semester. As if there is something about certificate that is more than God. Her point was that if it was second semester 300 level, she would not spill over, she can still quit it. So her point is that it's second semester final year, which means she has to come back after one year to write that paper. So God should understand. It look reasonable, not to come back for one year. Is it not looking reasonable? That's when we explain God into it.
But there's another one we do is to ignore God. The thing will be speaking to you continuously but you'll be silencing it. "This thing you want to do." The voice will come, you'll be struggling with your conscience as you are doing the thing, you'll still be doing it. You'll be struggling with your conscience as you are doing it, you see, you see. Some alternatives will just banish God out. Look, look, this one. I'm telling you the three things that comes into any of these other methods.
But I needed to remind us again, in fact, the way the Lord say "remind My children again that My word is that I will keep them alive in famine." We need to remember again that all we need to meet our need is the fear of God. There is no want to them that fear Him. There is no want. It may look weak as you are doing it, it not look strong, you know, it does not look convincing. It does not look—what's this thing about truth? Is that truth because truth is not a lie. You know when you are when you want to kill something, and when you want to set a trap to kill something, what will you put around that thing that will kill the thing? Something attractive. You see, truth is not something that attracts. That's why people are more inclined to what is not true than to what is true. Truth is meant to be endured. Truth is not meant to be enjoyed. That's why people don't go for truth. However, when you endure truth, you experience liberty. But when you stay with truth for however, you will enjoy error but you experience bondage.
So what I'm trying to say is that blessed are those if we are movable, if we will admit truth and we will throw away all façade appearance, all smoke screen and do what is right. And do what is right. That man, before he was asked "Why are you here without the garment?" He knew there was a problem with his entrance.
Blessed is the heart that is teachable. Blessed is the heart that is teachable. Blessed is the man you know who as I was telling him, I said if you have been trying a method for the past—you said you've had this problem in your life for the past six years. I said if for six years you have tried your method and it's not working, why not try another method? Just try this other wisdom. But you see, the fact that if the money is not in his hand—you see you cannot trust. Why would that person go and steal the money? What—if it would be somebody who is trustworthy. Now, that's the point I'm trying to make. The point I'm trying to make is that blessed are tiles that the cement under them if it is consolidated, the consolidation should be within the edge. As long as the solidity of that thing is outside the edge, it may be looking solid, it may be looking like it's working, maybe looking like it's okay. I remember a brother that was having, a serious problem with something. He had a character defect that had to relates to covetousness and something around something like that. So I met him and he said he has been praying to God, he has been talking to God about it. And I said but I noticed certain things you need to correct. Number one, must you be the one in charge of the money? Why not do it like this? Take this money, I know you are the organizer of the program. You can form a committee and give let somebody be a treasurer, financial secretary and let the money be with the person. He said "Ah," I shouldn't worry that I will see that over time now, but he knows that it will be overcome. He knows that by the grace of God. I said, "Bro, you are not getting it." Do you know that we were discussing about eight years or nine years later, the brother had become bankrupt. Matters around money has tarnished his testimonies and his Christianity.
Now you see, the point I am trying to make is blessed is the heart that is teachable. Blessed is the heart, the Bible says that you teach the wise man, he will become wiser. Blessed is a heart that is teachable. Blessed is a man who has—I was telling him, I said if you have been trying a method for the past—you said you've had this problem in your life for the past six years.
The point I'm trying to make is that blessed are tiles that are movable when they are not touching the mark. Because do you know one thing? Why a man can deceive everybody, he cannot deceive himself. You know when they are telling you something and you know it's true. Even when you are arguing, you know sometimes when you want to buy something in the market, you know some of us do it. You want to bargain. You know the thing is good, but you tell the person, "In fact, kini yi gan ko da," you are seeing the good, you say, "In fact, it's bad. There's nothing good in it. Sell it for one Naira." So that the person can—do you understand what? You know the truth. If he says, "No, it's 150," you say, "Okay, okay, let me give you 130." Because you don't want to leave it. You have already seen the good thing you want. You are seen the good. You say, "No, it's 150." You say, "Okay, I will give you 120. Look at the thing itself, if I even take it to one side and break it, it will not work." You are lying. You know that the thing will work. You say, "Oga, I can't sell it for that amount. Maybe you try other people. If it is like that, you'll come back." You now say, "Eh, since it's even expensive, let me just buy it. Let me just buy it, let me just buy it." And you fixed it for me. Let me just buy it like that, your thing is even expensive. You know that it has met your standard.
Now, that's what I'm trying to say. You see when God is dealing with our lives, we know. I pray we'll be meek. I pray we'll be teachable. You know when God is dealing with us on a matter, we will know. When God is telling us to move on a matter, we will know. When God is pushing you, pushing you on a matter. This thing, this thing, this thing, this thing. Even though you may be saying "Eh, you see, my great-grandfather was like that. My great-grandmother was not different. In fact, it is in our bloods that we will be stealing." You may give all kinds of excuse. While you may give all kinds of excuse for what you are doing, deep, deep, deep down inside you, you know.
So blessed are who if we are movable, if we will admit truth and we will throw away all façade appearance, all smoke screen and do what is right. And do what is right. That man, before he was asked, "How are you here without the garment?" he knew there was a problem with his entrance. Do you understand me? He knew that—everyone is wearing something. He would have asked, "Is it not a garment?" If everybody is wearing white and you are wearing green, don't you better know that your own is green? Won't you know that this thing is green? If everybody is in a place and they are wearing blue, black, blue, black and yellow, and you are wearing blue, black and green, won't you know?
You see, as we as we try to to cap our discussion this evening, the point I'm trying to make is that blessed are tiles that the cement under them if it is consolidated, the consolidation should be within the edge. As long as the solidity of that thing is outside the edge, it may be looking solid, it may be looking like it's working, maybe looking like it's okay.
I want us to talk to the Lord. Just pray, talk to the Lord about what we have discussed this evening. For the Lord, the means justifies the end. How do you handle small, small little things in relationship? Little things. The question of how. God will not say "why are you married?" God will say "how did you get there?" God will not say "why do you discipline your child?" God will say "how come you did it that way?" God will not say "why are you doing a masters? Why are you writing exam?" No. It is "how did you get that certificate? How did you get the admission?" The admission for that matter, how did you get it? God will not say "why are you working?" No. It is "how did you get the job?" How? The question of "how". For God, the means justifies the end. The end.
There is no want to them that fear Him. One thing that must be common to us all, regardless of our denominational setting, regardless of our our different gifts and talent. One thing that must be common to us all is the fear of God. It is the common denominator. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. As it says in Proverbs 9:10. You have not begun to become wise, no matter what you are doing, you are a fool. If that thing is not in the fear of God. Anything you are doing outside that fear. It may look as if you are prospering, but you are a fool. You are a fool. It is the fear of God. That shows that okay, this boy is getting wise now. It is the beginning. You begin to be wise in the affairs of your life. In the matters of your life. You are getting wise now when the fear of God begin to permeate it.
I pray we'll be meek. I pray we'll be teachable. Are you a movable tile? The unmovable ones were broken. They were broken and they were replaced. Blessed be Your holy name, our God. Thank you, Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
