[Speaker 1]
Lord indeed we praise you, we confess that you are the Lord. We give you glory and honor again for the opportunity, the privilege, the grace to gather together again to look into scripture, into your word of love in the name of Jesus. Lord as we gather together to you, we pray let your spirit work in our midst in the name of Jesus. Lord we pray that as we gather again, let it please you Lord to work in our midst. Let it please you to give attention to our gathering in the name of Jesus Christ. Our eyes are up unto you oh Lord. Meet with us individually, meet with us collectively in the name of Jesus. Thank you everlasting father. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Amen.
Can we thank God for how God has been helping us as we gather again today. What happened last week was a very major thing. The only way not to be deceived is to be personally connected. That is the provision in the scripture. That is the provision in the scripture. While it is good that we have disciples, we have pastors, we have people that we hold in high esteem that have been found faithful, it is equally important that yesterday in Sunday school, yes there are preschools, but as far as God is concerned, God never said let the church train your child. God said train your child. So, a responsibility cannot pass, although those people they help. There are churches that have done wonderful things over children. There are Christian schools where people get born again after attending such school. Yet, God's instruction is train your child. So we thank God for people that God has used and they are supposed to be helpers of our faith. They are not supposed to dominate our faith. They are to help our relationship with Jesus. We must be personally connected. Praise the Lord.
After a man perceives what he does not understand. Some things must not just be understood. Well, this is going to happen again. It is going to be a move of God. A move of God is coming. Be sure you are part of this move. And the more you are part of it because God is dealing with God is preparing you one on one. Yes, there is this anointing that you have received. You don't need that any man teaches you. There is this anointing you received that is teaching you, that is pushing you, teaching you. Yes, Paul will come to plant, Apollos will come to water, but there is this thing God is giving you grace, giving you grace, giving you grace. And one day, people will become drunk in the Holy Ghost. And one day the Holy Ghost starts making men to work because the flesh cannot do well. They will look like men who are drunk, but they are not actually drunk. They are men who are actually empowered. They will look drunk because of things that they are doing. What did they say about Jesus? Carrying chair that day and throwing them out of the temple, carrying whip and whipping the high priest? What would they say about Jesus? [Speaking Yoruba: Oníyeye ǹkan, tó bá kéré yín nínú. Eléyìí ti yàwéré, ẹbu á lórí eléyìí.] All kinds of things.
But he was not mad. He was executing God's counsel. They will look mad. They will look crazy. But the Holy Ghost will make men crazy. He brings men that will execute God's counsel. And because things have become so dark, when they are executing the counsel, they will be looking so crazy because of how dark things have become. So dark, things are so dark. Really really dark. If you watch what goes on in regular churches today. But the Lord will build his church, and the gates of hell will not prevail in the name of Jesus Christ. We thank God for that sharing among ourselves. It is just to touch us again to remind us and for us to encourage us. Be sure God is dealing with you one on one. Please be sure. If you are not experiencing it, cry to God. Say God, I am not a bastard. I am not. I am not a bastard. God deal with me one on one. Deal with me one on one.
The minister speaking in my church yesterday said something and something else was going through my mind. He said when they got to the Red Sea and God took the people of Israel across to the other side, and they saw Pharaoh and all his host destroyed in that sea, suddenly they said, "Who is like unto thee oh Lord among the gods? Who is like unto thee glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?" You know it was not planned. There was no choir that planned it before that time. I hope you understand me. It was a song that came as a result of what they saw. They were singing what they saw. Do you understand me? One of the things I see is that we soon get to a point when you will be singing songs born out of—most of the songs that we are singing now we have not experienced. You are singing the song of what when you say "Who is like unto thee oh Lord among the gods?" you have not experienced it. It is a song you heard in church.
But that day when they sang, they were singing their experience. Let us get into God. Let us get into God. God is seeking a people of power and he is seeking a people of praise, and definitely he will do it because he is already doing it in the name of Jesus Christ. Let us go back to Isaiah. Let us see a few things there. Isaiah 53 that we have been looking at. Isaiah 53. We have been looking at the Gospel. The Gospel. Isaiah 53:1. Who hath believed our report? We have gone through that for about three, four weeks. And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? For he shall grow up before him like a tender plant, as a root out of a dry ground. He hath no form nor comeliness, and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. Yes, he is despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows acquainted with grief. We hid as it were our faces from him, he was despised and we did not esteem him. Surely he bore our grief and carried our sorrows, yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities.
Now I want to expand this matter. He said he was wounded for our transgression, he was bruised for our iniquity. The chastisement of our peace was upon him. I want to make you look closer at this scripture. Look at this scripture vis-à-vis Romans. Let someone see this Isaiah chapter 53 verse 5. Somebody else to open to 1 Corinthians. 1 Corinthians chapter 1. And someone else to look to 1 John. 1 John chapter 1. We'll take 1 John chapter 1 from the verse 4. We want to look at something together and then as we start to look at this matter of the gospel. The Bible in Isaiah chapter 53 verse 5 says that he was wounded for our transgression, he was bruised for our iniquity. The chastisement of our peace was upon him and by his stripes we are healed. What I want to expand on today is this: he was wounded for our transgression, he was bruised for our iniquity. 1 Corinthians chapter 1, please read for us.
[Speaker 2]
1 Corinthians 1. Read from verse 1. Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ—
[Speaker 1]
Please, I want us to get something. How did Paul address the Corinthians? To them that are what? Sanctified in who? In Christ Jesus, right? Who are called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of the Lord. Please, this church that the letter is being addressed to, what was their situation at the time Paul was addressing them? This letter was addressed to a church that was living right? To a church that was orderly? To a church that was walking in holiness? Was it addressed to such a church? The Corinthian church, you know the matters he began to deal with them. They are even boasting that somebody was sleeping with his father's wife and he is boasting that—you don't understand me. If you are to take this letter, if you are the one that want to address a church that behaved like that, will you put this introduction? Will you say that they are sanctified in Christ Jesus? I mean, when you want to write a letter, you start by saying, "I want to talk to you about something." I want to make you understand one certain thing. And see the gospel. You must see the gospel the way they really are. If the gospel is preached in truth, ordinarily it will look like permission for sin. And this is why certain men have argued that they have seen the gospel as a cloak for expressing lust. Yes, but when you are through with the gospel, it will produce men of holiness and righteousness. But you must see the gospel the way they really are.
The Bible says he was bruised for our iniquity. Now look at 1 John 1:4 that we said someone should read.
[Speaker 2]
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
[Speaker 1]
Now read chapter 2, verse 1 to 4.
[Speaker 2]
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
[Speaker 1]
Thank you so much. Now verse 5, look at that Isaiah chapter 53 now that we are reading. When the Bible says we have looked at he bore our grief, when the Bible says "But he was wounded for our transgression, he was bruised for our iniquities," which transgression? Which iniquity? Past? Present? Future? Past, present, future. Or any two of the three? Or one of the three? Or the three together? I was making this statement under redemption. A righteous man is not righteous because he is doing righteousness. Just as a sinner is not a sinner because he is committing sin. But rather, the righteous man is righteous, that is why he does righteousness. And the sinner sins because he is a sinner. That the matter is about the quality of the person, not the action. Who is the person?
You see the Bible some people will come and they start telling my children this morning, some people will come and tell you, "Ah, you see, there is a curse in your family, nobody in your family can cross 50." And you see believers running here, running there, running to this place, running to that place. If he died before 50, what killed him is not the curse, it is because he did not look up. You see the Bible that is why I read 1 Corinthians for you and went to John. When the Bible was saying that he bore when the Bible says that he was bruised for our transgression. The transgression for which Jesus was bruised, Jesus was not trying to handle the sin that men sin. Jesus was handling the sin that men have sinned, the sin that men were sinning, and the sin that man will ever sin. You know, when things come like this, it looks like "Ah, this guy is very anyhow, I have covered I have covered now." I want to show you the bottom line to the error, to the problem that comes with the present issue of—what people are having problem with people that are teaching eternal security. And then once I remember it came in 1989, sometime. You see, error is a fundamental lie in a lake of truth. There is something fundamental, that is what makes it error. But there are some true things about this thing that people are talking about. It is just that somewhere somehow something went amiss.
You see my brother, sister, did you notice that in John when they read to 2? I will take that one very well. He said, "These things I write unto you so that you do not sin." There are things he wrote so that we do not sin. But even if we sin, what is the remedy for the sin? He said we have an advocate. He is not saying that if we sin, he said tell people confess sin because we sin, repent from sin. But the true matter about sin why the believer sins is that what? He has an advocate. You see, salvation is so comprehensive in all its levels. I mean in everything Jesus handled. It is so comprehensive such that Jesus what Jesus did is not to do a work in us that will make us to live right. No. What he actually did is that he changed us to be right.
You see, when Jesus dealt with our sin, you see the things that took I was discussing with someone who wrote something to me and I had to share some things with him. I was talking about how he has been struggling with a sinful habit and he has tried and tried and that I should please pray for him. And I said no, this thing that you are struggling with, when I really got born again I was struggling with this thing, and it has taken time for people to pray like you are praying now. I said but something broke the victory. I said what broke the victory was that I began to realize who I really have. I got to realize who I was and so it turned out to be—I cannot continue because I am not a—you do not understand this. If I am mango, how can I be orange? So you see, Jesus did not put in us a righteous-producing machine. He made us righteous. We are.
When we say he bore the sin, what we mean is that he did a thing for man that made God to transform a man once he comes into Jesus. The man is not just being put this thing to be living right, giving him Holy Ghost to be living right. Rather, what Jesus died for is to make man an entire, a complete, a new person who stands eternally justified before God. Do you hear what I have just said? He stands eternally justified. Let me explain to you. Maybe a little of this will help us. You know something that Peter taught with example. When Adam sinned, did he put in him what will make him to sin? Or as far as God is concerned, if any man do not receive Jesus, let the man do good, do well. What does he stand before God? Eternally condemned. Adam did not make man a sinner that will be sinning. He made man a being that he is eternally condemned. Are you understanding me at all? I am trying to ask what I am trying to say is that you see the Gospel, some things because we do not know our background, what we are coming from. It looks like [Speaking Yoruba: ẹrọ Ọlọ́run ò sé dé bẹ́ẹ̀, báwo ni Ọlọ́run se lè dé bẹ́ẹ̀.] All kinds of things. God cannot like that kind of a thing. Why will God be so sure? What about when we now go and sin again? What right thing can man do again that will make him not to be a sinner except that he comes to Jesus? Tell me, if a man, tell me one right thing that he can ever do again. Let him go to church, let him do good work, let him repent, give tithe, give offering. If he died without Jesus, where is he going?
The Bible says the condemnation is just like justification. I am showing you the condemnation that was eternal. It is the condemnation that was eternal. There is nothing about any man, there is nothing doing anything. [Speaking Yoruba: Ká máa bọ́ ìnú church, k'á máa jẹ́ gbogbo rẹ̀, k'á máa jẹ́ gbogbo rẹ̀, k'á máa bínú church. Oun a bá tọ loun ń lọ.] It was an eternal condemnation. So when Christ was bearing our sin, don't be thinking of the lie that you are lying. Don't be—that is not what he went to carry. That is not the thing he went to carry. Do you understand me? He became sin. He became sin. He became sin, sin, sin. Are you understanding me? He became sin. He carried us eternally. It was a justification that not just he made us to be doing right so that they can be righteous. That is not what it is. That is what religion makes you to understand. But that is not what Jesus did. Because if ordinary dust can do what it is eternal, then God can do much more than that. Amen.
I want you to understand. This is the Gospel. The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. The grace that is in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you don't understand it, you will say "I am struggling with this or that thing." I am struggling. I am still praying, "Please pray for me so that I will not be lying again. Now I am a liar." You do not know what Christ did. Oh, what a thing he has done. And that is why the Bible says you are only transformed by renewing your mind. You see, you need to be reconfigured to understand what God did. If you are not reconfigured, you know, understanding spiritual things spoken in spiritual languages, you will die in your thing. There is need for reconfiguration. There is need for reconstruction. There is need for us to be reborn. There are imaginations that need to be cast down. There are thoughts that exalt themselves against the mind of God. There are things that God must bring to the obedience to the Gospel. The thing that keeps you in sin is your mind. Your bondage is in your mind. Your bondage is in your mind. If your mind can enter and can you see that is why people are looking at themselves at the center of the church. They don't understand what God did. It is not a thing that man can do.
The Bible says we all beholding as in a mirror the image of the Lord, we are changed into the same image from glory to glory by the Spirit. It is not a thing that a man can do for a man. What you are finding in church today is "Okay, I am the one that raised this one." You hear them saying "my sheep". "I just feed my sheep. You know I raised this one. I did this one, I raised that. I'm the one that raised." You don't understand this thing that we are talking about. It is a thing that is bigger than a man. It is a thing a man cannot take credit for. All of the working, everything around it, please check it. The Bible says let us reach the chapter. He gave gifts to men for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, to building up the body, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the son of God. Now I want to ask you, who is working all of the workings? It says it is God that works in you both to will and to do. All of the thing, all of the engineering, the power behind the Gospel, the power at work that produces the life of God in a man is not a man. So we cannot confidently say I raised somebody. If you truly understand this thing. Rather, you can say I was used of God to be a helper of somebody's faith. You were used in the process.
Let me give an illustration. When the farmer wants to plant his farm, he says I will need a cutlass. He went, he bought a cutlass. He took fine, fine to make it very sharp. And then he took the cutlass and began to cut and cut and cut and the place become very clear. Who cleared the piece of land? The cutlass? It's the farmer. Now, somebody now came and the person said, "Ta! In fact, this cutlass is so sharp. Ah, you are a great cutlass. Ah, you are this sharp. Ah, you are the champion, you are the best." What is wrong with that person? Is he about the cutlass? The only thing I can say is "Ah, this cutlass is sharp." And the cutlass will say "Yes, it is the hand of the very sharp." So you cleared all this place like this? Yes. What did you use? I used cutlass. But our problem today, because we are not seeing ourselves as instruments in a hand. We forgot that even me that you are talking about that is addressing you, I am doing that. I was a street kid on Ajegunle road. Smoking Indian hemp and drinking beer in primary school when God went to buy the cutlass from the market of slaves. Then God began to work on the cutlass, the thing now became sharp, suddenly it is my sheep. We, who we are found and we are used as a cutlass to make the place clear. There is nothing that is about individual in this thing.
What I am trying to say is that, you see the Gospel, the reason why men cannot be transformed today is because men are at the center of the Gospel. Men must shift out of the center and put God at the center. What Jesus did, what he did is a thing that only him can also effect. And what he did was that he did not put in us something that will make us do right. No. Rather, he made us right. I am right. I am eternally right. Just as the sinner, there is nothing he can do, he is eternally sinner. Let him come to church, let him do everything, let him do everything. If he is a sinner, you see me, I tell people regularly, let's take communion. His prayers has been answered, right? His arm was before God. What did God still do? God sent Peter because he is still a sinner. He is eternally condemned. Now talk of the man who smoke and go to church once in a while. [unclear] If he thinks of being godly like Cornelius, he needs to be re-something. Why do people listen to him receiving Jesus? Why don't you talk to God and you will be tell him Jesus take that. Can't you see the Gospel? Don't you understand the good news? And that is why I kept emphasizing when someone encounter that was in '89, I encountered some brethren. They said righteousness is by faith. Yes, yeah. And then they now said "Look, it does not matter what we do, even if we continue in sin, even if we live ungodly." I said brother, I see there's a problem. I said but now I could not explain like this. I said too "Ah, I know I've been set free. But if I have been made mango, I cannot be orange again." If I have been made eternally right, then it cannot be even if we sin. It should be even if I do right, that's not what makes me right. Because for the sinner, it is even if he continues to do some good, that is not what makes him a sinner.
So that my boast will not be in my righteous deeds. My boast will be in Jesus and in Jesus alone. So the matter is not about the place of sin. Because we don't judge the sinner against righteous deeds. We say the sinner, even if he is seen, that is he is sinning, that is what makes him a sinner. So for the righteous man it is not even if he sins he is still righteous, no that is not the point. The point is that even if he is doing righteousness, that's not what made him right. He has been made eternally right. So when you see the Bible talking about sin in 1 John chapter 1, how do we reconcile this matter? How do we bring them together? Most importantly I want you to understand the Gospel. Get it clear. Get it right. That Jesus did not put something in me that makes me to do right. Mm-mm. Jesus eternally made me right. There is nothing anybody can throw or throw or put, do like this like this that can ever make me want to come before God as a failure. I don't enter God's presence feeling a failure. I don't. Not not at all. That does not matter how good the sinner does, he cannot enter God's presence as a righteous person. He can't. He can't.
You see I want you to understand what the Bible says that in him you are complete. There's a completeness. If you don't understand this completeness. And that is why time is gone now. We'll take it from this point next week. I want us to go through that Corinthians very well, go through that John. And then we'll find the balance between it so that you understand the matter that we are against. That is why I can never enter into church and whatever prayers, whatever thing will hinder me. No sin can hinder my access. Nothing but "Ah, but the Bible said if we don't confess our sins." I will show you all of that. These are very critical issues. We must handle them. If you don't handle them correctly, men will take the grace of God as an excuse to live ungodly life, what you are finding in the church today. So we must put them correctly so that everyone will hear the power of the Lord. On the other hand, it's not because you see yourself as being free to sin, that you see yourself that having been delivered from all our enemies, we can serve God in holiness and righteousness. Liberty to serve God is so that they can serve. Let my people go so that they can serve me. Let my people go! What are we transformed into? I don't know what is holding you down, but I am telling you that you must face that thing and tell it "I have been eternally justified." I have been eternally released to serve God. There is eternal release over my life. I have been eternally released. There is eternal release for my life. He bore my sin! If you must understand the Gospel. He bore my sin! He took it! My iniquity! What they say about your generation? [Speaking Yoruba: Eléyìí pà d'ẹ́yìn, eléyìí pà d'ẹ́yìn.] And you have been believing that. You have been believing under that fear. Something in you today that we just leave bondage. We leave under this under this fear. Sister, brother, believe the Gospel. It says if you will believe in your heart, this word of faith is in your mouth. If you will believe in your heart and you will confess with your mouth that "Hey!" Don't begin to think who can bring down Jesus from the from the heaven? Don't be thinking who is going to raise him up again from the dead? Oh, the power is here! The power of the Gospel is here! Anytime the Gospel is preached, the power of God is here to save you! He said go into the world and preach the Gospel. All power has been delivered unto me! Any power holding you down, that is not power. All power in heaven and on earth has been given unto him. No power can hold me. They will tell you put this under your pillow, tie this cross to your door, put this and you have been believing. Mm-mm. It is in your heart. It is next to your mouth. Praise the name of the Lord. Thank you Jehovah. Thank you Jehovah. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Amen. [Music playing]
He bore my transgression! He bore my transgression! He bore my transgression! He took it! My iniquity!
[Music playing]
