Little Foxes; Hindrances to Reward

[Speaker 1] The fellowships cannot be more spiritual than the individuals and families that constitute them. God uniquely desires a godly offspring. These are words of restoration and instruction in righteousness with Family Tent Ministry. May you be blessed as you listen. [Speaker 2] He who is unjust, let him be unjust still. He who is filthy, let him be filthy still. He who is righteous, let him be righteous still. He who is holy, let him be holy still. And my reward is with me, to give to every man according to his work. Now, in verse 11, the Lord left a very fundamental issue in verse 11 that it's as if he is saying anyhow you would like to live your life, live it. Anyhow you want to live, any way you choose to live your life, keep living. I don't have... it's like I have exalted enough. I have warned enough. I have rebuked enough. I have taught enough. And so, having done all of that, now, anyhow you choose to live, continue to live. That is the matter in verse 11. He who is unjust, let him be unjust still. Are you unjust? Continue. No problem. He who is filthy, are you filthy? Continue with your filthiness. He who is righteous, are you righteous? Continue in your righteousness. He who is holy, are you holy? Continue in the holy life. So, it's like whichever one you choose to take, just go ahead. Go ahead. However, I am coming quickly. I am coming quickly. I don't know whether this quickly still fits. This quickly was used in the first century. In the first century when John was receiving this revelation. Which century are we now? So, if then he said, "I'm coming quickly," I don't know how it will be by now in terms of the timing of God. Maybe it will be, "I'm coming very, very, very, very, very quickly." I don't know how we will put that. But the point is, anyhow you choose to live, you can live. Whatever you choose to do, you can do. Wherever you choose to face, you can face. And do you know what this is making me to see? It's making me to see that even if you do wickedly, it will appear as though there is no problem. He that is unjust, continue. He that is filthy, continue. And then it is related to the work. Behold, I come quickly and my reward is with me to give to everyone according to his work. Now, the point is this, if you go to Revelation 3, they are familiar scriptures, we'll just make reference to them. What do you notice very well in Revelation 3, in the letters to the seven churches? What do you notice? Once the Lord opens the matter with a church, what will be the first thing? If you are very familiar with the letters to the seven churches, he says, "I know thy works. I know thy works. I know thy works." So, the important thing we needed to understand is that the reward will be according to the works. And if I may announce to you, the works are known. I know your work. So, the reward that is coming is going to be according to the work. The person who is coming with the reward is going to do it according to the works. And the person who is doing the reward is not somebody you need to tell the works. Do you know what Yoruba calls him? Adajo laigbejo. Do you know what that means? When the judge wants to judge you, they will say there's the principle of fair hearing. Once they charge you for anything, what are you to do? You are to get your own lawyer. They will listen to you, to hear from your side. After you have given your own side of the story, your lawyer will advocate for you. They want to hear your own side before they give judgment. That is what we call the principle of fair hearing. But you know with God, there's nothing like that. He doesn't need to hear you to judge you because he was there when everything was done. So, you don't need to tell him, "You see, what I did..." He knows exactly what was done. So, he doesn't need to hear you. He just goes ahead to judge. Why? He knows our work. Now, having said that background, we proceed further. Just about the reward. He says our topic is "Little Foxes: Hindrances to Reward." What is the word "little foxes?" Where is it coming from? It's coming from Song of Solomon 2:15. For those of us who are not familiar with Song of Solomon, it's immediately after Ecclesiastes, before Isaiah. Song of Solomon 2:15. That's where you will find "little foxes." KJV says, "Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes." That's KJV. NKJV says, "Catch us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines, for our vines have tender grapes." But I like it more in the New Living Translation. "Quick! Catch all the little foxes, before they ruin the vineyard of your love, for the grapevines are in all blossom." Quick! Catch all the little foxes before they ruin the vineyard of love. Which love? We have been talking about the love of God. So great, so strong. So great a salvation because it is built on the love of God. It is rested on the love of God. And today, we are seeing something. He says catch all the little foxes before they ruin the vine of your love, the vineyard of your love, for the grapevines are all in blossom. Now, what are little foxes? Not the big foxes, not the mighty foxes. He says the little, little, little foxes. What are little foxes? How can we explain little foxes? I will bring it like this. Now, when you talk about little foxes, hindrances to reward, what should be clear to us so that we are not dancing here and there? What is it that can hinder a man's reward? What is it? As far as God is concerned, it is sin. When you say something hinders a man's reward, that thing that can hinder a man's reward is sin. Now, what then are little foxes? Little foxes, they are actually also sin. But however, because they are not giant foxes, they are not matured foxes, how are they described? Little foxes. What do you call them? They are still growing. They are young in age. They are not fully grown. They are small in size. Actually, little foxes, when we are talking about hindrances, we're talking about quiet sins. Sins that are quiet. Sin in a man's life that is quiet. What do we mean by that? Before I begin to go on, I want to draw your attention to how we started. What was the word of the Lord? "He that is unjust, be unjust still. He that is filthy, continue. He that is righteous, continue. He that is holy, continue." Now, what I'm trying to make you understand, brethren, is that we are in a period of little foxes. We're in a period when the Lord is saying whatever you choose to be doing, it may really look like there are no consequences. Whatever evil you might be doing, it will look as though there are no consequences at all. I'm talking about little foxes. I said little foxes are quiet sin. What do we mean by that? Little foxes are actually sin in a man's life that they are there and they don't seem to have any implication. You are there and honestly, when we look at you, when brethren look at you, when they relate with you, it will look like you don't have any problem. And I quickly want to make reference to certain things, two popular scriptures in the Bible about quiet sin. Can we remember the rich man and Lazarus? The rich man and Lazarus. That's in Luke 16:19-23. It says there was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. Everything was okay. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, the dogs came and licked his sores. So it was that the beggar died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torment in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom. Do you notice something? That with the man, it was when the man woke up on the other side of life that there was a problem. Am I correct? On this side of life, was there a problem? There was no problem. That is what we are calling little foxes. The way little foxes operate in our life. They are quiet sins. They are there but they look inconsequential. They look like they are not a problem before God. They look like there are no issues at all. Everything was going well. Is it riches? Is it money? Is it ministry? Is it career? Whatever? Everything was going well. Why are they going well? Because the law had pronounced. What did he pronounce? "Let him that is filthy, let the person be filthy still. Let the person that is of course unrighteous, let the person continue." So we are in a period, brethren, we are in a period that ordinarily allows the little foxes to keep being in operation. But I want to encourage you, the way the New Living Translation says, "Quick to catch them." Be quick, don't waste time. Be quick to notice them. Be quick. Don't say, "Nothing, if there is something God would have... why is the anointing still flowing if actually there's something wrong? Why is the church still going on if actually something is wrong? Why is God still blessing me if something is wrong?" He says, "Be quick." Be quick to catch little foxes before they ruin the vine of love. You see a similar thing also in Matthew 7:21-23. "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father in heaven." Look at something. The next thing, what follows? "Many will say to me in that day..." Which day? Which day is he referring to? Judgment Day. Are you noticing something? So all their life that they lived, everything was okay until the Day of Judgment. All while they were living their life, did they call them to question? Was there any problem with their life? There was no problem. Everything seemed to be okay. So I'm saying that there is a way the period we are in, this period that we are in, it is when you are supposed to be rewarded for the work that they cut you short from your reward. They may not cut you short from the work. They may not handle you while you are doing the work. They may not have any implication on the work that you are doing. The work will prosper, the work will grow, the work will move on. It is when it comes to the reward for the work that they will say, "Sorry, we are here, you did not catch us. We did not die. We were not trapped. We were there." So the Bible says quickly catch them. Quickly deal with them because hindrances to the reward. Hindrances to the reward! They will not stop the work. The work will grow. They will not stop your riches. They will not stop your prosperity. They will not stop your first class. They won't stop your business growing. They won't stop your beautiful houses. They won't stop them. And it will look like, "Oh, look at the blessings of the Lord." From America to Canada, from Canada to Washington, from Washington to Brazil, from Brazil to Japan. They are just flowing everywhere like birds of the air because of so much riches around you. Everything is just looking so well, so good. The little foxes, they may not have anything to do with all of that. That's why I showed you first in the rich man. Now I'm showing you again another person. I'm showing you that they may not stop ministry. They may not stop the work of grace. They may not stop the work of your giftings. They may not have everything to do with it. Little foxes, they are hindrances to reward. It is when rewards are to be given that they will show up. He said many will say to me on that day. That day was supposed to be the day of reward. My prayer, we will not miss out in the day of reward. You will not miss out at the hour of reward. Because sometimes rewards don't wait till day, there are hours of reward. There are hours. I will still go to show you that one. Hours. There will be a time the reward is supposed to come. No, no, no. There was one pulse, it was there and they just skip the reward. He said, "I never knew you. Depart from me, you who practice lawlessness." Look at what he now said to buttress that point. He's buttressing the point even though they use a parable separately to teach a lot of things. But that parable was buttressing a point. In verse 24, "Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the wind came, beat on the house, it did not fall, for it was founded on rock. Whoever hears these sayings of mine and does not do it will be a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain descended, the flood came, the wind came, beat against the house, it fell and great was the fall." Why was this great? Because it is better if you were not able to build. Are you understanding me? It is better if those foxes, they did not allow you to build. Your fall will not be great. Your fall will be small because they didn't allow you to even build. But they will not stop you from building. You will build edifices. And everybody will be saying, "Oh, thank God for brother this, thank God for sister that." Oh, wonderful! But you see, when the storm and the wind will come, everything will scatter. What is the storm and the wind? When it is time to reward. He who rewards knows the work. And every work that is laden with iniquity, that is laden with little foxes, cannot be rewarded. Little foxes, hindrances to reward. Not to the works, not to the prosperity, not to the ministry, but they are hindrances towards the reward. Now, little foxes, they can take various forms in the life of people. They can take various forms. And I have an endless list here. But the best way to summarize that list is Galatians 5. Let's look at the summary of that list. I want to move to verse 17, or let's start it from 16. "I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are these..." So little foxes can take the form of adultery. And mind you, when we say adultery or we say fornication, we don't only mean that two people have sex together. It can come in form of Jesus said, "He who looks at a woman lustfully has committed adultery in his heart." So it can come even in look. And the matter of this look in adultery, actually, when I was preparing, Proverbs 6 came to mind and I saw these six things abomination to God, yea, seven are they. And the first one says "a proud look." There's even a way apart from a lustful look, there's also a proud look that is abomination to God. They can take the form of look, the way you look, the way you look at people, you look at things. He says it's an abomination to God. Talking about little foxes, they can take the form of look, not only adulterous look, there's also a proud look. He says they are these: adultery, fornication, uncleanness. I like to read this thing more in the New Living Translation. It brings out the things clearer. It gives a simpler word for those things. When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your life will produce these evil results. This is how you will know that the little foxes are thriving. They can take the form of sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, idolatry, participation in demonic activities, hostility, you're just hostile, you just hate people, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, division, that is causing division among people, the feeling that everyone is wrong except those in your little group. It can take the form of envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin. What I'm trying to make you see is that this place could not even finish it. There are other kinds. But the point we are making is that whichever form that they take in all of these forms is that while they are there, you will know that they are not giant foxes, they are not big-big foxes, they are little. That is how they operate. They appear inconsequential in your life. They will not have any effect because little foxes don't hinder the work. They don't hinder prosperity. They don't hinder how your gift operates. They don't hinder miracles, they don't hinder prophecy, they don't hinder casting out of demons. They don't hinder material prosperity. What do they hinder? They hinder reward. I want to make us see that when I said that we need to be watchful, we need to be careful, when we talk about reward, when we talk about hindrances, I was talking about the Day of Judgment. I said don't always think that it is only Judgment Day that rewards are hindered. I want to show us two examples of lives in the scripture that little foxes took everything away from them. The first one I want to show you is in the New Testament. I want you to see the book of John 12. I want you to see what happened in John 12 when a woman came and an alabaster box of oil was used on Jesus. And then somebody was shouting. But we have a record of the purpose for which he shouted. Mary took a pound of very costly oil, anointed the feet of Jesus, wiped his feet with her hair, and the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. But one of the disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who would betray him, said, "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for 300 denarii and given to the poor?" Why was this spoken by a mighty missionary who had a heart for mission? Is that not the issue? He had a heart for mission! Oh, why this waste? You are buying car, you're buying car, souls are perishing. He used to look very spiritual. Am I very correct? Am I very correct? Look at you, you're talking about wedding, souls are perishing. You're talking about this, how many souls have you won? I'm not saying people who say that are not godly people, I'm only saying that there could be little foxes. That's what I'm trying to say. It doesn't mean that people who say that may be saying that sincerely, they may be saying that truly. But we are looking at a particular case, that's why we are giving these examples, that sometimes sanctimonious statements may be coming from a corrupt life. That's what we are just trying to show. A very sanctimonious statement. He said, "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for 300 denarii and given to the poor?" Then verse 6: "This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and had the money box, and he used to take what was put in that bag." You are the treasurer of the fellowship. And you take small, small... you are looking at Brother Judas and comparing yourself with him. After some things come to your custody, that belongs to the group, you take small-small for yourself. I'm not saying that is wrong in your own eyes, I'm only saying that that is dishonesty. Tell the woman to bring more. Why are they going behind to take it? That's what we are talking about. It means that something is wrong. That's why they are doing it behind. That's what we are seeing in Brother Judas. And what bothered me in this verse about this life, the Bible says he often takes some of his money, some of the money, and used for himself. In NLT it says, "He was a thief who was in charge of the disciples' funds and he often took some." So he was with this ministry for how many years? For three and a half years. For that three and a half years, Brother Judas was stealing and there was no consequence. Nothing was happening. When they sent out the 12, he was there. He ran for all the miracles. Again they sent out the 70, he was there. When they were doing the Lord's Supper and they were breaking bread, he was there. You can imagine the preaching, he was there amongst the 12. He heard everything. But he was stealing. He was doing those things behind. That's what we are talking about. It hindered reward. Did it hinder the ministry? No. Did it hinder fellowship with Jesus? No. Did it hinder him being among the 12? No. Did it hinder hearing Jesus often and often? No. Did it hinder being sent out by Jesus? No. Jesus knew that he was a thief. Yet, everything was going on as though everything was okay with him. I'm talking about what little foxes are. I'm trying to describe it. And I'm trying to make you see when you say, "Brother, sister, little foxes sometimes, this is what we are talking about. Sins in your life that look inconsequential. They don't seem to have any implication for your life. But they are there. They are there, working. They are there. They are there in your life. They are quiet. I didn't want to say they are invisible because they are visible to you. But they are quiet. They are not shouting, but they are there. The Bible says he often takes some of this money, some of the money, and use for himself. And notice something, even though Jesus knew that, Jesus did not say, "Shuta! You thief! Because you have been stealing our money..." Do you think the Lord Jesus did not know? He knew. He knew everything. But he didn't say that. Look at the response of Jesus. But Jesus said, "Let her alone. She has kept this for the days of my burial. For the poor you have with you always, but me you don't always have." Jesus did not respond to that. I'm talking about little foxes. Forces, they are little, they are not big foxes, they are little foxes. That is how they operate. They operate like termites. Termites operate with wood. You know how termites operate with wood? You know, the surface of the wood, they won't touch it. The wood will still look like wood. Do you understand what I want to say? The wood will still look okay. In fact, the surface will be shining. It is when you carry the wood, you will now see that inside is empty. Everything is empty inside. That is how little foxes operate. When you look at yourself, you will look spiritual, you will look blessed, you will look okay. But the day we want to lift up the wood, what will be there? Emptiness. Nothing will be there. Little foxes, hindrances to reward. And we just look at how Brother Judas said when Jesus said, "One of you will betray me." And Brother Judas said, "Master, is it me?" And the master did not say, "So you don't know yourself?" The master did not say, "God of judgment, you wicked..." He didn't say that. Oh, may we not be destroyed by little foxes. And the Lord is saying, "Are you unjust? Be unjust still. Continue. Are you filthy? Continue to be filthy. Are you stealing government money? Be stealing still. Are you fornicating? Be fornicating. Continue. Are you lying to your spouse? Be continue to tell lies. Are you lying to your boss? Continue. You are stealing government money, you are saying it is your own national share. Continue." You use false papers to enter US and you got a good job, continue. "Are you unjust? Be unjust still." When Baba begins to talk like that, let us be afraid. Let us fear! You know why I say let us fear? He says as many as I love, I chastise. When Baba does not use chastisement and he said, "Continue," ah, then continue. In any case, I just have this to say: "My reward is with me." For me, it's a statement that calls for caution. It calls for me as an individual to watch over my life. It calls for me as an individual to be sober, to be vigilant. To watch my thinking pattern. It calls for me to be careful. I'm actually talking about how do we respond to little foxes. Be cautious, be sober, be humble, be watchful, be careful. Be circumspect, don't conform. And then like the psalmist said, "Lord, keep me from presumptuous sins. Let them not have hold over me." You must be prayerful that God keep me from presumptuous sins. Don't let them have hold over me. Sins that are presumptuous. You just... No, no, no, keep me from them. Don't let them have hold over me. Look at the psalmist again. He said, "Lord, incline my heart to your fear. Oh, incline my heart to your fear." Another portion, he said, "Lord, you are my light, lighten my darkness." God, anything that is dark, lighten my darkness. I'm talking of dealing with little foxes. Presenting your life daily before the Lord to say, "God, search me, know my heart. Try me, know my thought. See if there's any evil way in me, lead me in the path of life." Test me, Lord, so that I can learn your principles. These are important things to note as we go on in this pilgrimage journey. As we journey, just carry this pattern of life along. Arrogance will take us nowhere. But caution will do a lot of work for us. Do a lot of work for us. And just mention two people. I want to use that to round up. We cannot look at them again. Remember Samson too. You know the case of Samson? Look at how everything went well, everything went well. He was sleeping with prostitutes, he slept at Gaza, he slept with that, this, that. Everything was going on well, there was no problem. Was the anointing flowing? The anointing was just flowing. He would just go, he would shake himself. But one day, he said, "I will shake myself like before." Bible said he did not know that the Spirit of God had left him. I'm talking about don't only think it's about the day of judgment. Little foxes hinder from reward. How did it hinder reward for Samson? That was how he was taken that day. But I want to show you how it hindered the reward. What was the design of God for Samson? Samson was to subdue the Philistines. Was that not the design? But look at how it ended for Samson. When he was to die, look at how it ended for him. Bible says but his hair began to grow. Isn't it? And then when the hair grew, he asked for the pillar of the temple. What did he now say? "Let me die with the Philistines." Of course, the amount of people he killed that is dead, the scripture recorded that it was more than all he killed in his lifetime. But the reward was... he was not designed to die with them. He was not designed to die with them. He was designed to kill them. That was not the design. He lost that reward. That was not the design. Of course, Bible still counted as a man of faith. If you go to Hebrews 11. He was counted as a man of faith. Why? Because despite his situation, he could still turn to God and he understood the love of God. He understood the mercy of God. And he said, "God, for this one more time, strengthen me like before." He could still approach the throne of grace with boldness. That is somebody who understood God. And that is something you must credit Samson for. But I'm only talking about hindrance to reward. That's what we are looking at. He was not designed to die with those people. It was because he prospered, they were little foxes he did not catch. He didn't catch and unfortunately, it spoiled the vine of the Lord. It became a hindrance to the reward that he was supposed to get. Let us note this. And as we close, let us all read Isaiah 33:1. Let's all open to that scripture. That was something the Lord called my attention to so seriously in rounding up this teaching this evening. Isaiah 33. The Lord spoke to me with this verse, this scripture, in the Yoruba version. I actually read the Yoruba version, but we have the English version before us. The Lord spoke to me in Yoruba language in ministering to me. I will try and interpret it. "Son, be careful about the visitation of evil that comes in the night of your life. They will not come in the morning. They will not come in the afternoon. They come in the night." The English translation: "Woe to you who plunder, though you have not been plundered! And you who deal treacherously, though they have not dealt treacherously with you! When you cease plundering, you will be plundered. When you make an end of dealing treacherously, they will deal treacherously with you." I want you to know that there are things you may be doing. There are things that may be there. That may prosper with you and you may not face any consequence at all. It may look everything is okay. But the truth about it is that there is an evil visitation that comes in the night of a man's life. They come in the night of your life. When you want to sit down to rest. When you want to sit down to be at ease. That is when rest and ease, that is when they are taken away. I pray that will not be our portion. But like we said in that scripture: Be quick to cast out the little foxes before they spoil the vine of your love. Let us pray. I want you to talk to the Lord. Little foxes, hindrances to reward. Little foxes, hindrances to reward. Remember, they may not hinder ministry. They may not hinder your marriage. They may not hinder your career. They may not hinder your church building, your church planting. They may not hinder your material and financial prosperity. They may not hinder any of all of those things. Little foxes. They show up in the day of reward. I want us to pray that the Lord will help us. The antidote: dealing with little foxes, let us be sober always. Let us be watchful. Let us be careful. Let us be vigilant. Let us always commit ourselves to the Lord. Lord, search me, know my heart. Try me, know my thought. See if there is any evil way in me, lead me in the path of life. Lord, lighten my darkness. Keep me from presumptuous sins. Don't let them have hold over me. Don't let them have grip over me. Lord God, watch over me. He has said, remember what our discussion last week: He is able to keep us. He is able to help us. He is able to carry us. Let's turn ourselves to him. Let's roll on him. Let's tell him that Lord, we will not miss our reward. We will enter into all of our reward. In the name of Jesus. Thank you, eternal Father. In Jesus' name, we pray. Let me invite my wife to close the meeting. [Speaker 3] Father in Jesus' name, thank you Lord for your word that you've spoken to us. Thank you Father for this understanding, revelation. Thank you, Lord. We give all the glory in the name of Jesus. Lord, we commit ourselves into your hand. That Lord, we will not be hearers, we will not be speakers, but we will be doers of this word in Jesus' name. You have sent this word so that we can be above the board. Can be above, so that we can dash into pieces everything that hinders reward. And let us know to be little foxes. Lord, we pray, search us. Lord, search us, search us, search everyone of us. Point your light into our heart and help us, oh Lord, to see ourselves in the light of you in the name of Jesus. Lord, we pray none of us will be deceived by the deceitfulness of sin. Lord, help us to live, oh Lord, according to all that you have provided in Christ Jesus for us to live above, to overcome, to put foxes in their place so that they will not have any way in our lives. Father, we pray you will help us. And we trust in you that you will help us. Lord, we are grateful for what you have done tonight. We pray the blessings of this meeting will not end here. Holy Spirit, thank you because beyond this point you reboot our heart until Christ is formed in us. Thank you faithful God. In Jesus' unfailing name we pray. The grace of fellowship: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us now and forever more. Amen. Surely God's goodness and mercies shall follow us all the days of our lives and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever and ever. Amen. Praise the Lord!
