Church fellowships cannot be more spiritual than the individuals and families that constitute them. God greatly desires a godly home. These are words of restoration and instruction in righteousness from Family Truth Ministry. May you be blessed as you listen.
[Speaker 1]
The point I'm making is that the word of God is clear about what should be the relationship between husbands and their wives. It's so clear. What should be the relationship between those who are not yet married, the relationship between brothers and sisters? The brothers and sisters, the word of God, the truth, is there. And Paul said to Timothy in 1 Timothy 5:2, he said younger women handle as what? Sisters, with all purity. Where is purity today in the midst of young people? Where is purity? That is why I give the example of the case of someone starting a relationship within the space of two months, he has impregnated the sister. He said, "Fancy, fancy." He said he just led and he proposed and all of that, everything. Then he now brought the case to go and meet their pastor. Go and clear everything. Go and meet your parents. But the point I'm making is that these are brothers in fellowship, sisters in fellowship. Where is purity?
When they enter into marriage, the same thing. The word of God is clear. Husband, love your wife as Christ—the direction is clear—as Christ loved the church. So there are several ways you can love a wife, but none of them meets the standard of God apart from as Christ. And the relationship between Christ and the church is very clear. Christ did not die for a holy church. He did not die for a righteous church. He did not die for an obedient church. Christ died for us when we were sinners. So the husband is loving the wife unto death, not because the wife is holy, the wife is obedient, the wife is submissive. Rather, it is by loving her that the wife will become just that. But now we say, "No, because she did not submit, I will not love. Because she did not do this, I will not love," forgetting that it is not the woman that is asking them to love her. It is the command of the Lord. So when they don't love her, it is disregarding the Lord.
We also find our sisters the same thing. "Why are you not submitting?" "You need to know my husband. You need to know him. Somebody who cannot even display love, you tell me to submit to him? I will show him in this house." That seems to be what we enjoy. But we forgot that that was the life we were living before we met with Jesus. And our submission two weeks ago was that, look, Jesus came into our life to give us hope. That is why He came. When He came and He said, "No, live like this," when He prepared a way of life for us to live, it was a way of life that should give us what? Hope. But we keep turning against that. We keep turning against that hope. He gave us hope in all other situations. We'll be hopeless. And today, what are we making of our marriages? Hopeless marriages.
You see hopelessness all around. That morning job, you enter into the churches, this brother will talk, that sister will talk, you see hopelessness. You see Christians who are not having difference from unbelieving youth. The way boys are dealing with girls. Brother Felix, he says he is doing fancy, fancy. Rather, he is actually befriending Sister Funke. After dealing with Funke, then he said, "Ah, she broke my heart," and then go and propose again to Sister Bose. Is that not what they do in the world? And then we say we are brothers, we are sisters. I was in Lagos when the president of the fellowship was proposed to two sisters at the same time. President of fellowship.
So you see, we are not making a difference. So you find among our youth today and among the married, what do you find? Hopelessness. You don't find marriages that reflect the glory of God, the image of God. That is my concern. That is why I said that hope for this generation—I keep telling people—the hope, if you want our marriages to have hope, we want our lives to have hope, we must return back to what the Lord said. That lifestyle that He gave us. Jesus came, and the Bible says Christ in us, the what? The hope of glory. Once we remove Christ from our life, any other life that we are living outside Christ is hopelessness. That is why it is so common today. I was counseling the founder of a church somewhere and she—let me leave denomination now, just these are personal issues that we deal with people. I said, "Sister, let me tell you." [unclear] I am telling you, talking about his wife. This marriage is not making me to prosper financially. The ministry is not prospering. In fact, everything keeps going down. Do you call that a woman of God? A woman of the devil. Describing his wife.
[unclear: Then I made] about three, four, five sentences. You know what I just said? I said, "Sir, I think I know what is wrong with your ministry." And I opened the scriptures. I just took him to the scripture. I said, "Sir, the Bible says a man ought not to cover his head because he is the image and the glory of God. But a woman is the glory of the man." That is why men don't cover head, women cover. There is a token of this covering, which is the scarf. But the matter is beyond that scarf or no scarf. It's deeper than that. The scarf is just a token so that we can tell our children. Why are you putting scarf? We will be able to tell them the reason. It's just a sign so that we can have something to tell our children and teach them the truth about the difference between a man and a woman. They are not equal. But one is not inferior to the other. That is the mistake most people are making. That is what I'm going into today. That's why someone wants to oppress the other one. They are not equal, but it's not about inferiority and superiority. It's about purpose.
For example, will you say your bathroom slipper is inferior to your shoe? One is just two hundred naira, the other one is two thousand five hundred. But is it inferiority and superiority? What is the difference? It's purpose. What you use the shoe for is not what you use the slipper for. It's purpose. But the mentality most men are having is about one is superior, one is inferior. And that is the undoing of most men. That is what I'm going into gradually. But I was trying to show the man, I said, "But the woman is the glory of the man." I said, "Because the man is not of the woman. The woman is of the man. The man was first made, then the woman was taken out of the man. So the woman is an extension of the man, made male and female. But the female was made from the male. So the woman is of the man." And I said the man is not from the woman. The woman is from the man. However, the man is by the woman. So both things are clear. Every time you suppress your wife, you suppress your glory. Because while the man is the image and the glory of God, the woman is the glory of the man.
I said, "Sir, the reason why your glory cannot shine is that every day you suppress your glory, you curse your glory, you verbally assault your glory, you march down your glory, and you're on the mountain praying, 'Oluwa o, bogo aye mi, ogo kankan kole jade laye yi o.' I say ogo kankan o le jade, keti e fi ku ogo yin ti wole." That's what I told him. He said, "Pastor, mo nide re sir." Ogo yin ti wole. That woman is the ogo that you are looking for. Go back home. And I took him back to Ephesians where it says, "He that loves his wife..." I said, "Sir, ema ka lo o. He that loves his wife, loves himself. He that curses his wife..." Go down. He that curses his wife, curses himself. He that suppresses his wife—what am I to bring out? Is that we forgot that we were hopeless when Christ came into our life to give us a good life to live. That life is to give us hope. But the more we are drawing away this life, the more we are making our marriages, our lives hopeless. You see young men, young men who ought to be in front of battle acts for God. It is the devil, sir. The devil pushed me and I slept with her. They are calling to stand for God. Their boldness to stand in the place of prayer has been robbed, cut down by lust. Lust.
So, that was the background last week. And I'm just praying and I was giving us a representation of how God showed me a revelation. And what was the revelation? People want to fill a drum with the water of life and they took baskets. They go to the sea, they fetch, they run to pour into the drum. When will the drum be full? And they were sweating, trying to fill the drum. And they were trying to fetch the water with baskets and they were doing it and they were sweating and they were doing that. What has God called their life? Prayer. And God said that is the church. Men and women in their marriages, trying to obtain life by going to the rivers to fetch to fill the drum of their life with baskets. When will they fill? Is it not a hopeless situation? And they are sweating. This is what people in their marriages today, they are sweating, they are struggling, they are doing everything. They are jealous, they are all of that. We need to go back to the Bible. Honestly, it's a pathetic situation. Pathétique. I just trust God that a change will come. Revival will come. People will understand what we ought to do and there will be a turnaround into the part of Christ, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Let us go to Genesis. Let's go to Genesis. Genesis Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3. Genesis 1, Genesis 2, and Genesis 3. Genesis Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3. Now, in Genesis Chapter 1, we saw where the Bible said, "Let us make man," in our verse 26. "Let us make man in our own image." Genesis 1, popular verse 26. It says, "God said, let us make man in our own image, in our own likeness. Let them rule over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him, male and female created He them. That's Genesis 1:26-27.
Now, turn your Bible to Genesis Chapter 2. If you look at Genesis Chapter 2, from verse 7, telling us how the man was, how that creation was done. Genesis Chapter 1 was a summary of creation. It gives you the whole summary. Chapter 2 began to tell us how it happened. When He said, "Let us make man in our own image, after our own likeness," and God made them male and female, it was not as if God made the creation at once. He first made man. Man had been working, later He now made the woman. But everything happened on the sixth day. Nothing took place on the seventh day. [Speaker laughs] Are you understanding me? Women were made on the sixth day. Man was made and the woman was made later the sixth day. Now, on the sixth day when man was to be created, verse 7: "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into him into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Now the Lord had planted a garden in the east in Eden, and there He put the man He had formed."
Then how it was done, the Lord made all kinds of trees to grow out of the ground, all of those things. So I'm trying to save time, please. I believe you're familiar with this history. Let's just be going on. Go to verse 16. "And the Lord commanded the man, 'You are free to eat from every tree in the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat it, you will certainly die.'" Note, after this time, the female of the male had not been made. But we know that God made them male on the sixth day. As the Bible said, He that made them at the beginning, made them male and female. But it was not at the same time. I'm trying to explain something about this matter of creation as we begin to move into very serious patterns this week. We are looking at what is knocking marriages today. We are looking at the challenges of masculinity and femininity.
Do you know what is the essence of feminist movement today? Feminism. It's becoming a strong thing. Man and woman, we are equal. Women say, "Me, I cannot kneel down to a man." You ask, what is the thing about kneeling down? In some cultures, they don't kneel down to women. So it's just a cultural thing. I hope you know that. That in some cultures, [unclear] hello sir, hello sir. And it is respected. So it is the culture that we are kneeling down here. What I'm saying is that what is cultural that we are kneeling down? [unclear] But where the matter is, is the mindset. Bible says we are transformed by the renewing of our mind. Now, if you look at these things very well, consciously and unconsciously, God first made the man. Is that not? And that sequence is very, very crucial.
Do you know why it is crucial? Read 1 Timothy. 1 Timothy Chapter 2, verse 11. Can somebody read that for us? 1 Timothy 2:11. [Speaker 2 gestures for someone to read] 1 Timothy 2:11, read.
[Audience Member reads]
"Women should learn in silence with all subjection."
[Speaker 2]
Hold on, who is speaking here? Paul. What was he teaching Timothy? He was telling Timothy how people ought to conduct themselves in the church. Where do we get that that was what he was teaching him? About 3:15, where he said, "In case I delay..." Can somebody get that for me? 3:15, let's look at why Paul was writing that letter to Timothy.
[Audience Member reads]
"Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing these instructions—"
[Speaker 2]
If I am delayed...
[Audience Member continues]
"—If I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in the church, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth."
[Speaker 2]
Even though we have thrown the truth away. We are the pillar and the foundation of truth. Truth and foundation of truth. OK. So you can get why Paul was writing that letter now. Now go back to the Chapter 2 that we are reading, 2:11.
[Audience Member reads]
"Let women learn in silence with all subjection or with all humility."
[Speaker 2]
Read on.
[Audience Member reads]
"But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed."
[Speaker 2]
Ooh! It was before there was sin. It is not sin. Sin has not entered. Some say it's because of sin that is why women submit. No. Jesus has redeemed us from sin. It's not a matter of sin. It's a matter of creation. What is the reason why this thing is coming, is not because the woman sinned. It is because Adam was first formed! So if there was to be no sin, the man and the woman were never equal. Even if there was no sin. Adam was first formed. By creation, by the order of creation, by the organism of creation. That is why the Bible says, "The head of Christ is God, the head of the man is Christ, and the head of the woman is the man." So that when the woman takes herself outside the man, she has taken herself outside Christ and outside God. That is why He said, "Although this is a great mystery, talking about Christ and the church, nevertheless, let every man love his own wife and let every woman see that she submits to her husband." Even though we are not yet perfect, even though we have not yet become Christ, even though the brother may have some things that may not be like that of Jesus, even though the sister may do some things that is not complete submission like the church is submitted to Christ. The brother and sister should know that they are both work in progress. God is perfecting them. They should respect their imperfection, forgive themselves. But they must always remember that no matter what the sister does, I must love her as Christ loved the church. And no matter what the brother does, I must submit to him the way the church submits to Christ. If that thing is not in order, creation has been disorganized. It's not sin. It's not about sin.
And you also need to realize, as you go, you will see. It was not because Adam sinned that God said it's not good for him to be alone. There was no sin. So, man, even in the fullness of his glory, is inadequate without the woman. Even when he has no sin. So it's not because the man has sinned, so the woman has come to... no, no, no. Even if there is no sin, glory of glory, one with God, no mistake, know how Adam was at creation now. That he is without the woman. This is bone of my bone, flesh of my flesh. She was speaking and it was God that was speaking. He was speaking and God was speaking. It was at that time that God said it's not good for him to be alone. So it's not because man sinned, so man now needs a wife. No, no, no. Even if a man is working one-on-one with God, he and God we speak in comfort. So that's the kind of madness today.
What is that? If a man has total intimacy with God, as long as God has not given celibacy, it is not good for him to be alone. So it's not a matter of sin. There is no sin in this thing that we are discussing. It was creation. That Adam was first formed, first majority. Before he now goes to the next reason that will be shown to us very soon. What's the next reason? Adam was first formed before the woman. And Adam was not deceived. That was the second reason. It was the woman that was deceived.
Are we the Bible together? Yes. So you can go home and reflect on these things. We are all Bible students. Reflect on these things. We're all Bible students. Reflect and allow God to even open your own eyes into this matter. I was reading a commentary and I disagree with the commentary. Talking about, they said, the woman subjection. They said the woman subjection to the man, as a result of the sin she committed, and I just—it's a big commentary by one of the early fathers—I just packed it and I did like this, cancel. It's not because the woman sinned that why she subjection. That was the second reason. There was a first reason. It was because Adam was first formed.
And so Adam is the being, Adam is the being that carries the divine mandate. And that was why when the woman sinned, there was no immediate consequence until the man. When the woman ate the tree, there was no consequence. Her eyes were not open. It was when the man ate it that her own eyes were opened. So she became a sinner by the man. Even though she ate it first, it is by one man that sin entered the world, not as by one woman. Because she does not carry the mandate, it is the man that carries the mandate. But that thing is not superiority and inferiority. Because in the fullness of his glory, he cannot survive alone, except in the fullness with the woman. What is that? It's not about superiority, it's about purpose.
Now, before it now came with, "The woman was deceived, then and in this situation now happened." But she will be saved in what? Please read on. "And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in transgression. Notwithstanding, she shall be saved in childbearing. If she does what? If they continue in faith and charity and holiness. If they continue in faith and charity and holiness, they will not die in labor room. It will not happen. They continue like that. God is going to save them. Because that was what happened to her. He said, 'I will multiply thy sorrow in conception.' Some people have come down with all kinds of prayer points. That God, let us pray, God made her like the Hebrew woman. You see that that is not in the Bible? I've been in meetings and they raise that kind of prayer, these sisters people. Ma, I was in such meeting. I was just over-hearing them in the corner. And they said that no, the sister woman should be like the Hebrew woman. Hebrew women who give birth without pain. Where is that kind of thing in the Bible?
Because if you go and check the Bible, Exodus Chapter 3, if you check Exodus Chapter 3, Exodus Chapter 2, where the matter took place. What took place was that the Egyptian midwife, Shiphrah and the other person, because God granted them favor, granted the Hebrew women favor before them, they did not kill the male child. They spared them. When they now got to Pharaoh, they now lied. That Pharaoh, you can go and check these things. People don't pay attention to Bible. We just build things on some spiritual thing, but I call them spiritual ignorance. Because there's no truth in these things. The word of God is truth. He said, so the Egyptian midwives, they told lies. They lied! "Ah Pharaoh, the Hebrew women, they are not like the Egyptian women. That before we get there, they have given birth and they are already with their child." That was what took God's blessing to those women because they protected. So the thing was that that was not the situation. They only lied!
How can the point I'm making, what is in the scripture is that even though there will be pain—so that some brothers start to feel that because they feel pain in conception, they are not godly—there's nothing like that! It is in the Bible that you may feel pain, but look, I will save you through it. That is what the Bible said. That is the Bible. Not that because you're not spiritual, that's why you feel pain in conception. It's not true. You don't create unnecessary distance between people that is not biblical. That your what God promised is that you may feel pain, but look, I will save you through. That is what the Bible said.
Now, like I've explained, I've explained to us. Any question? Please ask questions because I want us to—I want us to go to the journey of Chapter 3. Because it was in Chapter 3 there was a change. You know in Chapter 3, there was a discourse. He said, "Thy desire shall be to your husband and he will have dominion over you." That was sin. At creation, they were to rule. And in sin, the man is now a ruler. Before he was into that. Let us take question. Let's take question quickly. [Background noise] What else question we have today? What other question?
[Speaker 2]
I think I've explained to us clearly. Adam was first made. The reason of making Adam first, God knows that in this matter of marriage, do you notice it was first thing that for Christ, he was Christ that left father and mother and came down for us, even though we we are the sinner, it was He that came down. We are the offender, He is the offended. He made the woman into transgression. But in our own madness today, what makes us man, that when she offends me, I show her my leg. If she doesn't respect me, I will show her I am a man. You're only showing that you're a fool. What makes you a man is that you can go and die for the transgression. That is why you are first made. That is why you are bearing the image and the glory of God. You have made to carry God's glory. You have made to be like Christ. You have made to do what God did. That is why you are first made so that you can carry a glory that when there is katakata, you can manage it. Because you carry a glory of God. When there is problem, the man shows up. That is why the woman is your glory. She's here to scatter the thing. When the man shows up, the glory of God shows up.
But today it's reversed. That was why we are first made. For a man to be a good spiritual material, if he marries a woman, his availability in the woman, despite the woman is the church. How many times have we sinned against Christ? And you come out and He says, "I bless you." How many times did we sin? How many times did you do mistake? Christ does not have it against us. We want to see a man that is like Christ. And once we see him like that, it's not a good spiritual material. Why? A man who cannot manage one woman, he has failed in one family. Get to Christ. He cannot manage one family, he now as pastor of many families? What for? Is that the law of God? That's not the law of God! If he cannot manage one family, and then he goes and pastors many families? For what? It's not the law of God. If he cannot be faithful over little, he cannot be faithful over much.
That is the spiritual principle. If we cannot manage one family, you now want to manage many families? For what? That's not the law of God. We are just turning it, common sense, philosophy, we turn it and turn it. But the truth of God is plain. God's truths are plain! It is because we don't want to endure truth. Our heart is hard, we are difficult to teach. Like our forefathers that perished in the wilderness. And that is why many people are perishing today in their marriages. Marriage is not making people, marriage is killing them, it's wasting them. The brother will marry and because he married, you see his spiritual life is scattered. The sister will see how she just destroyed her husband, "I wish I never married." Marriages are supposed to make people, you see people grow from nothing and become mighty trees. Because two are better than one, but today it appears one is better than two. Because we are not building one another. We are working against another.
[unclear: I have] explained to us clearly. Adam was first made. Adam carries something that is not in the woman. That is why even though she ate it first, her eyes were still closed because she's not carrying it. Adam was the one that was carrying the glory. When he ate it, the glory of God had now been scattered. Sin now entered. So you need to check these things well, you need to understand these things so that you can move in this thing and you can walk in it.
I believe I've explained to us. Any question? Please ask questions. Because I want us to go to the journey of Chapter 3. Because it was in Chapter 3 there was a change. In Chapter 3, there was a disaster. He said, "Thy desire shall be to your husband and he will have dominion over you." That was sin. At creation, they were to rule. And in sin, the man is now a ruler. Before he was into that. Let's take questions. Take questions with creation. According to the MDS today, what other question?
What has happened? You have been lazy. This one is your own. Somebody came as you're carrying something said, "Ah, let me help." And as the help, okay carry it, then you begin to work with him. Are you not a mad man? I'm telling you why femininity is being suppressed, because we don't understand that the woman is the glory of the man. The man who suppresses her, his own light is dying. Do you see masculinity is dying? The man will go out, I will beat this sister. What is happening? The revelation is being polluted, masculinity is dying. You think you are using the sister, masculinity is dying. Because you are suppressing her, your pride is dying. What makes you a man is that you can go and die for the transgression? That is why you are first made. That is why you are made in the image and the glory of God. You are made to carry God's glory. You are made to be like Christ. You are made to do what God did. That is why you were first made.
[unclear] When there is trouble, when the man shows up, the glory of God shows up. But today it's reversed. That was why you were first made. So what made you a man is not acting like someone to display. That is not the man, that is a fool. A man is not after something to display. He was in protective defense of his wife. He was not there for the first time, God, for the disciples to live. If somebody is a helper, he's coming to help you with the project. You're the one that owns the project. He only came to help you. A lot of things are wrong today. We are not looking at creation. In everything, He said to help him. But today, what has happened? What has happened? You have been lazy. This one is your own. Somebody came as you're carrying something said, "Ah, let me help." And as the help, okay carry it, then you begin to work with him. Are you not a mad man? I'm telling you why femininity is being suppressed, because we don't understand that the woman is the glory of the man. The man who suppresses her, his own light is dying. Do you see masculinity is dying? The generation is being polluted, masculinity is dying. Because you are suppressing women, masculinity is dying. Because the woman is the glory of the man. [Background noise] What has happened? A man who can manage his life and his wife. He must make our sons and our daughters understand this thing. That it is about you. A man is not about anything to display like the world is teaching. That is not the man, that is a fool. Let's make our sons know that a man is not acting like this to act. That is not a man.
