Today, which is the first Saturday in the month of June, we want to take a step to the second aspect of new creation reality. You remember we took new creation reality in the month of April. I hope you remember. Was it not in the month of April when I said there are three aspects to new creation reality? The first aspect: a new way of living. The second one: a new life in Christ. You remember? Then the third one... can't remember the third one. Life in the spirit.
A new way of living, a new life in Christ, a life in the spirit. These are the new creation realities. But last month, I said I had a burden for a time like this. You remember? I said we may not go to the second one, which is a new life in Christ. I said I just had a burden that perhaps what will come again the following month, if God is not leading us in any other way, we will pick the matters that we started in April. You see the point I'm making?
So today we want to look at that. And just as we want to look at a new life in Christ, it will be good again to try to separate new life in Christ from new way of living. I hope we still remember what we discussed under new way of living. We used Colossians chapter 3, you remember? Set your affections on things above. It's a new life, a life of holiness, a life of purity, a life of godliness. The old man has been put aside. You are a new man. So if we don't see a new life in Christ, then we doubt whether you actually experienced new creation realities.
There's a reality. The reality is that there must be a new life in Christ. We were discussing something this morning in the morning devotion in our house and we were saying something that testimony and blessings... Lamentations chapter 3 from verse 34. And we were looking at relationship, vertical and horizontal relationship. And it was saying that in Lamentations 3:34, that when a man acts unjustly against his neighbor, it is in defiance to God. That is, you must forget God to do evil to your neighbor. He said they oppress the poor, they do injustice in their defiance to God. You defy God to do evil. I hope you get what that Lamentation was trying to say.
So we were looking at it this morning and we saw something. There's a vertical relationship with God, which is expressed in the way of praying to God, reading your Bible, studying the word of God, speaking in tongues. Those that you do directly to God. You see the point I'm making? Meditation. This is directly to God. That's vertical. But there's the horizontal one. That's your relationship with men. We were able to come to a conclusion that look, while there is a vertical relationship which shows that we are truly Christian, but what really shows much more than the vertical relationship that we are truly Christian is your horizontal relationship.
Because he's saying that the vertical one, of course you will remember God when you want to pray. Is it not God you remember you're praying? That's why you're studying. But to show whether you actually carry that God in your heart is when you are now in your business. You are behind the steering. You are in the marketplace. You are in the exam hall. That is when we will know whether you actually carry that God with you where you are going. It is not when you are in his presence that we want to know that me I remember God. Of course, in his presence, you will know that you remember God.
So people who truly remember God, that God will affect what they do to their neighbors. If you truly carry him, if you have not forgotten... he said man do evil in defiance to God. He do evil to his brother in defiance, that is he defy God [unclear: gbagbe Olórun yii] to do it. So people who do evil to their neighbor, people who defy, people who oppress their neighbor, who do wrong to their neighbor, it's an indication that they have no regard for God. So if there's true regard for God, it will guide the vertical relationship. So it is in the vertical that we truly know that you are carrying him everywhere you go. Not just when you come to the shrine like they worship Ogún [unclear: ojubo Ogun la ti n b'Ogun]. Where is our own shrine now for the Christian? It will be in the place of fellowship, church, prayer time. Of course, if you're there you don't remember God, there's a big problem.
But you all get the point. And we began to see then we took ourselves to Micah where he said what the Lord require from you. He has showed you o man what the Lord require from you: to do justly. Micah 6:8. He said to do justly, is it to God or to man? It's to men. He said to love mercy and truth. Is it God you want to show mercy? It's your neighbor. Then the third one: to walk humbly before God. So we now look at it that even in that place, the first two things that God put that he require from us is first towards our neighbor.
So if a man carry God in his heart, it reflects in that. So what I'm trying to say in essence is that new creation reality, like we saw in the month of April, the first thing is that in your vertical relationship, we see holiness, we see godliness, we see righteousness. That will be the new life. The new life in Christ is a life of holiness. He said we have been renewed after the image in righteousness, after the image of him who redeemed us. So there's a righteousness that comes forth. He that have this hope in himself, purifieth himself, even as he is pure. That is the new way of living. It comes as the first thing in new creation reality.
But in addition to that, most of the time people don't separate it. People don't separate... apart from a new way of living, there's also a new life in Christ. Most of the time because people don't separate these two things, many Christians think that it ends here. But it doesn't. It doesn't end here. How will you know? Look at how the Bible puts it so beautifully in Hebrews chapter 12 verse 14. What is the first thing? He said follow peace with men and then holiness, without which no man will see the Lord. Do you see? The new life... while the new way of living is addressing holiness, godliness, uprightness, righteousness. The new life in Christ is addressing something completely different.
What it is addressing, it's addressing something that has to do more with an inner attitude. And I will show you abundance of scripture to make this point clear. Abundance of scripture to make it clear. Now look at what the Bible... I began, I mentioned some of these ones when I was trying to see that we will not look at it. You remember when we came in in May? I mentioned something about this new life in Christ. But it might be good for us to just look at some of these scriptures together. Look at what the Bible says in Matthew chapter 5. I hope you know that it's good let's take it from the verse 1. And seeing the multitude, he went up into a mountain. And when he was set, his disciples came up unto him. And he opened his mouth and taught them saying...
Now there had been... I want you to look at this scripture. When it says he opened his mouth and he taught them saying, who was he speaking to? Multitude. Look at the scripture. And seeing the multitude, he went up into the mountain. And when he was set, his disciples came up unto him. And he opened his mouth and taught them saying... disciples. The reason why I use it from up to down is because this place has caused some people have disagreement about who he's speaking to. There are some teachers of the word of God who felt that Jesus was speaking to his disciples.
But there are some who feel that yes, maybe speaking to his disciples, because them here can be either the multitude or the disciples. You get the point? Some felt that no, it is the disciples. Some felt that yes, it could be speaking to the disciples, but more primarily because they're the ones... because the matter here are the principles of the kingdom. You get the point I'm making? It is not the general thing, principles of the kingdom. But at the same time, it spill over to the multitude. That is where me I stand.
The reason why I took there is because you know this sermon continue from here. It gets to the end of chapter 5. Let's see it. [unclear: Be ye therefore perfect as your heavenly father], you know it's the one still speaking to the end of chapter 5. So it means we commence into chapter 6. Chapter 6 again from verse 1: Take heed therefore. It was still Jesus. There's still no interruption. Still that sermon on the mount. Are you following me? [unclear: Gbogbo awon Bibeli toni red] you will be able to follow it in those Bible that have red. You have it in red.
So find that the whole of 5 is Jesus, the whole of 6 is Jesus, enter into 7. It's still the one still speaking the whole of 7. Up to when it gets to around verse 27. Now look at it in 28. What did it say? It came to pass, when Jesus ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine. I hope you get what... so that's why I felt it was not just the disciples. But I'm not against that he may be speaking primarily to them because these are kingdom issues. But he was addressing his disciples as he was addressing the multitude. But these things, of course, apply primarily to his disciples. I hope you get the point I'm making. But they were hearing him.
Now which means the reason why I'm showing you these things is that Jesus wanted to... this was the first [unclear: ti o ma n gba awon eeyan jo] he gathers people and he wanted to expose the principles of the kingdom. How Christians ought to live, how our life ought to look like. Anybody that want to be part of this move that he's starting. Is that not? If you want to be part of this movement, these are the principles of this movement. Now in that principle, now please look at look at now 5. Let's now go back to 5. Let's leave all the other things. What applies to a new life in Christ.
Now look at verse 9. What did it say? Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God. What is that thing? What is that thing telling us? Let me read amplified. Blessed, enjoyable, enjoying, enviable, happiness, spiritually prosperous, with life joy and satisfaction in God's favor and salvation regardless of their outward condition are peacemakers and maintainers of peace for they shall be called sons of God. What did that... what is that picture saying? Hope it's not about righteousness. It's not about holiness. It's not about godliness. What does it mean to be a peacemaker?
So you see in relation to peacemaker, the one is full of arrogance, a child of... you know, the life I've been discussing [unclear: omo] the child of Christ [unclear: o ma n ni]. Are you following something? To those see that it is not only holiness, righteousness, godliness that is the matter. There's something again that make men to know children of God. The this new life in Christ. There's this new life. You remember when they told Jesus: Why are you wasting time? Why not call down fire like Elijah to finish these people? He said you don't know the kind of spirit that you have now.
And so another incident again when disciples when they said the people will are going to betray him, and then they were buying sword, buying everything. And then when the people came [unclear: bo-un] and Peter [unclear: fia]. Jesus said put back your sword into... and then return the ear. The disciples were confused. Ah, is it not time we are going to win the kingdom? We thought it's by killing all of them that the kingdom will be established. But it was not by that.
I'm trying to show you something about a new way of living, a new life in Christ. Now if we reverse the statement, what will you say about them who does not make peace if we are to reverse this statement? If blessed are those are the peacemakers, how do we reverse it? [unclear: E ka] in the reverse. Put this in the reverse. Are we afraid? Cursed are those who do not make peace, for they shall be called the children of the devil. Is it as real as that? Is it as real as that? Let's now see whether it is as real as what we've just said now or it is not. It looks like ah, how will I not make peace? How will I be cursed because I don't make peace? Ah, how will I become a child of the devil? When holiness and you know, you get the point I'm making. You follow the point I'm making?
Look at James. I just want you to be meditating on these scriptures and go and check whether you have this new life in Christ. There's this new life. [unclear: Man ni ah, iro, da, nature emi ni, o kan wa violent ni]. Brethren, there is something we are not getting. There is something we are not getting. We'll still come back to Matthew 11. There's something we are not getting. Look at James. James chapter 3. Are you there? Now, please let us look, let me read first from NLT in this simpler one. James chapter 3, are we there now? I'm reading from verse 13. If you are wise and understand God's ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don't cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not God's kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For everywhere there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.
But the wisdom that is from above is first what? Pure. Then what follows it? Peaceable. Let's take it in King James. I want to make it whether it is as real as what we just read now that ye shall become sons of the devil. In King James, verse 13 of James 3: Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace.
The fruit of righteousness is sown in what? Peace. Do you see why he said that follow peace and holiness? That you cannot separate the new way of living from the new life in Christ. The fruit of righteousness is sown in peace. Now I'm trying to show you, but where we cannot find peace and there is strife, there is that, what did the Bible say is operating? What kind of wisdom? Earthly, sensual, and what? Devilish. I want you to see that you can reverse Matthew 5:9, that cursed are those who are not peacemakers, for they shall be called children of the devil. Because the wisdom that they are using to manage the situation is what? Is earthly, is sensual, and is devilish. I'm talking about the new life. There's this new life.
I want to make you know the salient characteristic that will make you to know a man that understand God's way. The reason why I read NLT for me, he say who is wise among you and understand the ways of God. There are several believers who don't understand the ways of God. I mean understanding the ways of God. You know the ways of God, there is a way of God. Let me give you a good example. Everything about Christ was prophesied in the Old Testament, isn't it? By the various prophets: Moses, Jeremiah, all of them. They prophesied the first thing, he said even the prophets of that time, they were wondering what manner of thing is this, is that not? That Jesus Christ, his glory then the suffering. They were asking the spirit of Christ in them so that they can know the mystery. I hope you know where I'm quoting in the Bible. Are you familiar with that?
What were they told? They were told that the something is what? Is not for them, but for us. He said even these things, angels desire to look into it. Ah-ah, [unclear: ki l'Olorun fe se gan? ki l'Olorun fe se]? Please, what exactly was these ways of God that was mysterious, that angels, that prophets were trying to look into it? It was that God wanted to make peace with man. What did Christ do? The chastisement of our peace was upon him. He was just to break the wall of partition. Is that not? He said when we were enemies of God, Christ did what? He reconciled us back to him, making what? Peace. So do you see the ways of God? All the mystery, all the things that God did in the prophets, the prophecies, the thing, all those things that silenced the devil, did everything, all those expressions of his power, of everything, God working towards just one thing. What was it? Peace between him and man.
There is no man that understand the ways of God. When you see a man whose ultimate pursuit in life is not peace, he does not know God. He doesn't know God. That is why you understand... I want to join something to you, although there are several ways to look at it, but I want to join the thing to you very quickly for you. Look at everything that Israel did [unclear: di-di-di-di-di-di]. The first covenant, what did Israel do? Did they break the covenant or establish the covenant? Broke the covenant, in fact they scattered the whole thing. What did God do again? He made a new covenant. God made a new covenant this time I will write it in their heart, I will not write it on the wall, I will write it in their heart.
God went went went went went went, made a new covenant. In the new covenant now, who did God bring together? The Jews and the Gentiles, have we? to still have his church, have we? Now the church again, look at what the church is doing again with God. Are you following me? Yet, what did the Bible say? No man ever hate his own body, but he nourished it, even as the Lord his church. He's still working working working working working working so that eventually he will still come for what? His bride. Do you notice that God did not divorce? When you hear I hate divorce... I want you to understand where it is flowing from.
There is something so that whatever goes on, there is something about a man who understand the ways of God. There's something about a woman who understand the ways, who understand because what I'm talking about: a new life in Christ. You see this new life makes a woman, makes a man, to put every all of his power, all of his strength, everything into something. And the ultimate thing he's working for is to make peace. Is to make peace. The new life in Christ. The new life in Christ. It's a life... you see there's it's a life, it's a you know... do you notice what the Bible... Paul talking about worship? He said for God is not the author of confusion but of what? But of peace.
Look at what Jesus said about himself. Let's see Matthew. Matthew 11. The very familiar scripture. 11 from verse 28. It says, Come unto me all ye that labor and heavy laden, and I will do what? I give rest. Take my yoke upon you, learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find what? Rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Please look at 29 again. What Jesus say about himself? Take my yoke upon you and do what? Learn of me, for I am what? Meek and what? Lowly in heart. I am meek.
What does it mean to be meek?

When you have power to do something, you have all the power, everything to stand for yourself, but you are lowly. You forget about that power, that authority.

Meek. Some people think it's humbleness.

It's part of humbleness, but it's more about being gentle.

Meek. Some people normally use gentle, as synonyms of meek. But it is not directly the meaning. But it's synonyms. But it's not the direct meaning of meek.

Humility and being lowly.

That is gentility. That's why people normally use gentle as synonyms of meek. But you see, it's just like efficient and effective. You know they are not exactly the same thing. Although you cannot separate them. But they're not exactly the same thing.

Why efficiency is looking at you know achieving something at the lowest cost, using the minimum time, at the lowest cost possible. Effectiveness is looking at you know having results. [unclear: Ka sha ti ni result]. It's just like for example you want to kill a fly. Broom is effective. Flit is effective. AK-47 is effective. You will kill the fly. But which one is the minimum cost? [unclear: Wha], the fly is dead. Broom is just 50 naira.
But if you want to kill a lot of mosquito in a room, broom is effective. Flit is effective. AK-47 you can be shooting them [unclear: bo-ah, bo-ah], they will die too. But which is the which one is efficient? Flit, just [unclear: pshh] you stay outside for 10 minutes, you come back they are dead. But if you carry broom [unclear: bo-ah, bo-ah, bo-ah], you will kill all of them. But that's not the lowest... do you check... I hope you see that they are almost the same thing, but they are not.

Meek, to be meek is talking about not being revengeful. No matter what somebody does, you don't you don't act back with you know... for example, let me show you element of this meekness. You know there is way somebody can talk to you, and the way you will talk back... [unclear: ma ni emi na o fun pada]. You know inside you that the way you spoke and the manner in which it was said, it was to give the person back. Although you will look like a Christian. You will look you will look. But you know that sometimes maybe that a person is talking you are not responding. You look like a quiet a gentle person.
But you are not gentle. That thing is to revenge, is to throp the person [unclear: ba ti e lohun lori ape]. You look you've given the person back. You know that's what he's talking about. So you see why gentleness has to do with action. Somebody may be acting gently and yet is not meek. Do you all get the point? As long as the motivation... meekness is talking about more about the inner attitude. What is the motivation for the action? What is the basis? Why did he do it like that? It may look mild, it may look gentle, it may look [unclear: ah eeyan gidi de ni suuru o, rara]. Is the real thing that God is looking at, is it coming out of a meek... that's why you see that you look at some Bible they will say I'm gentle in spirit. Which translation have that? KJV. I am meek and lowly in heart. Uh-huh, they will say I am gentle. But it's not really gentle.
You see, it's what he's putting up in this place for us as Christians. He says today you are called. He called us to it. A new way of establishing God's kingdom. Establishing kingdom, kingdom in the heart of men, kingdom in the heart of people. Even though you are a king, you are coming on a donkey. These things are very, very, very, very important things about life that we must learn. They are critical things about our work with God.
Look at let's but I want us to see something in the Old Testament before we close. I have said I always want to make sure we finish by latest 12:00. I don't want us to be exceeding 12:00 again so that but I want us to see something quickly in the Old Testament. Look at Psalm 34 in the Old Testament. Are you there? Psalm 34. That's the last text we'll look at and then we'll pray. Psalm 34. Can I read now? Psalm 34. That's the last text we'll look at.
It say from verse 11: Come, ye children, hearken unto me and I will teach you the fear of God. What does he want to teach them? The fear of God. Now what does it say? What man is he that doeth that desireth life? Love many days that he may see good? Is that not? NLT: Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? So what he want to say now is the recipe for what? A long and peaceful life. Look at what he said. Keep your tongue from evil. Have we? What's the first thing? Tongue from evil. Your lips from what? That is lie, being deceitful. Look at the next thing. Depart from evil first, you keep your tongue from it. What's the first requirement? Your tongue, [unclear: eeyan o so bi o so bi pada], you know someone speak evil you are not returning with evil.
Look at him stupid boy. They say me stupid boy, your father stupid boy. [unclear: Ni-ye] that's how we're been steering. So look at him mad man, you say me... you know first your tongue from evil. But it didn't end there. It now went further. What did he say? Depart again from evil. Rather do what? Do good. What's the next thing? Seek peace. And if the peace is running away, pursue it. It means peace is not something that is waiting. As you are seeking it, what is it doing? It's running.
People think peace is a cheap thing to get. People who are at peace with their with their wife, peace with their friend, peace in their office, peace with their neighbor, peace with their this, is a thing that they pursued. Peace is constantly doing what? Is running because by nature man is not a man of peace. The way of man is not the way of peace. It's not the way of peace. The way of man is contrary to peace. Man don't know peace. The way of man is the way of war, fight, this. Uh-huh, see I've been patient one, I've been patient one, I've been patient two, I've been patient three. First to do, it no dey pain. Second to do, eye go red.
Okay o, I've been patient one o, one, one. Now two. hmm, by the third time, I will return my own. You know man, you know he's trying to he's trying to do what? Seek peace. But where is the peace going? One, he was seeking peace. Two, he was seeking peace. The person did not change. By three, I said ah, didn't I try? Look, look, ever before I gave him back, I first waited o. I he did me the first one, I didn't talk. He did me the second one I didn't talk. Am I a fool? So I gave him back the third time. Seek peace, but what do you do again? Pursue it.
I'm showing you, I'm showing you a very, very, very important thing. I was talking with a man I say look... [unclear: oni pastor she mi o she suuru to ni? o ti to nkan bi odun kan-un] he has been patience, patience, patience and then he mentioned that I have tried, I have waited for 1 year now. 1 year, 2 years, did I not try? a whole 2 years. I just simply asked him, when did you get... when were you converted? At what age? He mentioned the age. I said so for how many years did God wait for you? He was quiet. He got converted at the age of 20-something, uh-huh. God waited since you were 12, 9 when you already know good from evil.
Look at how many years that God waited: 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22. God waited for 13 years he waited that you will be converted. You are saying you have waited for 2 years. Do you see how far you are from your God? He was now quiet. Seek peace and do what? Pursue it. Do you notice what it means when you say you will reap coal of fire on his head? Some people don't understand it. Some people think that it means that uh-huh, you are putting fire so that God can destroy the person. That's not what he's saying. That's not what he's saying.
What he's saying is what happened, let me give you a biblical example, what happened between David and Saul. When Saul was trying to kill David, and at a point David met with met with Saul and he could have killed him, but he didn't kill him twice. What did Saul say? That is when you constantly repay people with good, your life will convict them of their wickedness. Your life will make them they will realize that ah, I'm a bad person. That is the kingdom we want to establish.
They will just come to see that ah, I'm a bad person. That was what Saul later came to realize and he said he's a bad person that he had done bad. I hope you get the point I'm making. That is the coal of fire. He's talking about the fire of repentance, being able to establish God's kingdom in the heart of people. Because your motive is to overcome evil with what? With good.
Look at what brought us to repentance. What brought fire upon our soul and we are burning today for God? What makes us to be burning today for God? It is not revenge. Then what else happened to us? We were convicted of our sins. What you don't understand is that many times today we have stopped the Holy Ghost from being able to work. It's the same thing you find it's tricky, that's why I tell people: If your Christian life is [unclear: go and check people that have problem in their marriage] their Christian life have not been correct. This same principle is what you find in marriage.
It say wife, submit to your husband so that even when he's going to obey the word, they will be won back when they look at your life that is coupled with what? Meekness and fear. So what is able to bring your husband back to his sense? The correct life that she's still living. Check it between servant and master. Look at it, the same thing between servant and master. Look at 1 Peter chapter 2. Read this from verse 18: Servants, be subject to your master with all fear. Not only to the good and gentle, but also to the who? to the harsh, to the froward, to the inconsiderate. Are you seeing it?
For this is thank-worthy, if a man for conscience towards God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if when you are buffeted for your fault you take it patiently? But if you do well and you suffer for it, and you take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even unto this were you called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that we should walk in his step. Do you see it again?
So the question we need to ask ourselves is what Paul said in Romans chapter 14. Romans chapter 14:17. What are the three things that characterize the kingdom? Righteousness, that is what? Righteousness is the first thing. Righteousness is the new way of living. The kingdom of God is in righteousness, there must be a new way of living. What's the next thing? Peace. You see it? It's in righteousness and peace.
So the third one is the one you see there, and joy of the spirit. That's why I said that life in the spirit. That's the three things that characterize the kingdom. But we're the second we're taking today: peace. Because again people don't understand this work in the spirit. They think that God is God is spirit. Those who must worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. God is spirit. There's a life in the spirit. [unclear: o yapa]. It's not abstract. People think that the spirit is an abstract thing, it's not an abstract thing. Bible says walk in the spirit. I will show you what the spirit is. It's not abstract.
The things of God are not abstract, they're not abstract. People begin to you know there's this I don't know what I call spiritism, not spiritual life. They think to be in the spirit... 'the Lord is here now'. No, no, that's not what it means to be in the spirit. We'll come to it later. There's a joy in the spirit. Is it about the the... no, there's a joy in the spirit. Very, very practical. But what we're saying today is that the kingdom is in righteousness, but it's also in peace. Let's go ahead and pray. Let's go ahead and pray. Talk to Jesus just talk to the Lord. That I may be meek and lowly in spirit. That's becoming like Jesus on a daily basis.
