Surely Blessed is the Man Who Fears The Lord

Church fellowship cannot be more spiritual than the individuals and families that constitute them. God really desires a godly home. These are words of restoration and instruction in righteousness from Family Tales Ministry. May you be blessed as you listen. [Speaker 1] We're talking about faith and Christian conduct. It must be said that if you look at Nigeria today, a major challenge is not that there are no Christians. The major challenge is that we cannot see Christian conduct. By implication, what I'm saying is that we have people today who are indeed not as though they are not born again. They are. If you take any institutions, take parastatals, take organizations, look at the neighborhood, look at our campuses. Compare population of Christians for example in FUT Minna to Muslims. Do you understand? I hope you understand what I'm saying. Look at your immediate neighborhood. Compare the number of churches to the number of mosques. Which is higher? Are you understanding what I'm saying? Look at politics in Ondo State for instance. If you look at the involvement, who are more involved? Christians or Muslims? Christians. And many of them don't even claim that they are not born again, because they do things that make you... because they bring... Are you understanding me at all? But what I'm saying is that if you look through it, the major problem is what? Is the conduct. The conduct. The Christian conduct. And I state that today to be the challenge for evangelism and revival. That is the challenge for evangelism and revival as far as I'm concerned in our immediate environment. Evangelism and revival is at a very low ebb today because the fruit that is coming out of those who are called Christian is not the fruit of faith; it is the fruit of unbelief. For us to be able to please God, there must be faith. He said without faith it is impossible to please God. Once there is no faith, then we start some other conduct. That's why we lie to get some things, because we don't believe God can provide. Once there is no faith, what will come out of us will be the fruit of unbelief. So what I'm saying is that there are so many Christians, but there are very few that actually live the life of faith. So the fruit that comes out is not of faith. And so we have... and that is where the real challenge is for Nigerian Christianity. The fruit that is coming out of these people... there is tongue-speaking, there is miracle, there is all of that, that is just gifts. But the fruit in terms of the conduct. A man will be speaking in tongue and doing everything and the next day by the time he's through with the message and everything, by the time it comes to how he handles money, you'll be shocked that is it this same person that is doing this? Was it here that I gave the story? A pastor that needed to conduct wedding for his member. His own hall was not big enough, like we have to borrow this place to use now because we don't have a big hall. So he had to use the hall of a pastor friend. They're both close friends, so he had to use it. And when the wedding was going on, there is normally a thanksgiving, a wedding thanksgiving. So the offering was taken and everything. By providence I just happened to walk out of the church because I know the two of them. I relate well with the two of them. I relate well with one, the one that brought his congregation to the place; he's the one that made me come for that wedding actually. So I came to the place. And I just walked out, it was an argument between the host pastor, the one that owns the venue, and the one that brought the people. The one that brought the people said the thanksgiving offering is for him since he brought the people. The one that owns the building said no, it is for him since he owns the building. I became so embarrassed with fellow ministers. How will you be struggling? "No, the altar of the venue is mine." "But if I had not brought the people..." "Hey, but if I had not provided the venue we would not have been able to take the thanksgiving." And they... it's to develop the place. The church where it's done normally takes the thanksgiving offering because it's to thank that... He said, "But everybody here they are my own people." I just walked off because I felt completely embarrassed. I did not contribute. I just walked off the place and I felt so sad. What I'm trying to say is conduct. I'm talking about Christian conduct. Christian conduct. The conduct that comes out of our life is what really shows whether we are in the faith or we are outside the faith. My prayer is just that let's daily watch our life. Let's daily watch our conduct. Let's keep asking ourselves very personal questions. Because as I conclude, I want to conclude this talk because there's a burden I want to share with us. One thing the Lord keeps bringing and bringing in my ears over and over and over again is the fact that I did not say when I come, will I find Christians? What I said is when I come, will I find faith? It's a matter the Lord keeps bringing in my ears. It's a matter the Lord keeps reasoning with me. When He comes, will He really find faith? If there is faith, faith has its own works. It's not just that you are a Christian. Are you really in faith? If the Lord comes and He looks at your works, is it the works of faith? Our attitude, our lifestyle, our values, our priorities, our pursuit, our speech. It's very important for us to note these things, so that like our elder said, he said lest I might have run a lot in vain. He says everybody run, but it's not all that obtain. Even those who all run. So you may have practiced Christianity, you will have spoken in tongues, you will have done miracle, you actually ran too. You were in the race, but it's not everybody that obtained. He said let us run in a way that we will obtain. Because the whole essence of running will be useless. It would have been better that we did not run than to run and not obtain. So let's run in a way that we will obtain. Many are running, but they're not concerned with obtaining. It's a matter God keeps bringing, keeps just calling my attention again and saying, "Wole, run to obtain." It's not just that you are running. Run in a way that you will obtain. And check. With this style, will I obtain? Will I obtain? Don't just say I have... there are a lot of... everybody you go to say they are Christians, but not everybody will obtain. Let's run in a way and it is your own personal decision. Like I keep telling people, on that day there will be no special criticism. When they are making the roll call, and they will just say, "Asa-Tao!" and Elena under... "Yes, the record shows this and this and this and this." It is soon they will also call "Wole Olusola." There's no special class, there's no special breed. It's the same... so it's not about somebody policing somebody. I keep telling people, "He's coming. Let me live well." It's about you looking inward and making yourself straight. Because even the vessel God is using to talk about these things, He said He will also be judged by these things, as if He's not the one who said it. So let's look inward. Let's make our conduct to conform with the works of faith. The Lord will help our lives in the name of Jesus Christ. Just in furtherance, still looking at this matter of living correctly, living right. As if I want to pause on the direction in which we are discussing, but I just want to show another direction to the discussion. I don't know who I might be talking with today, but the Lord gave me a burden, a burden to share on this matter of living correctly and living right. We'll just read a translation and then we'll make emphasis and then we'll try to pray. Now, if you are familiar with Scriptures, if you are somebody who knows how God responds to the wicked and those that fear Him. When God wants to talk about the wicked, what will God say about the wicked in terms of God's judgment? You will notice God will say, "As for the wicked, I will recompense him according to his works." Do you notice it? Let me give a practical example, for example in Galatians. When talking about the Spirit, it says the fruit of the Spirit is love, then joy. But when He came to the fruit of the flesh, what did He say? He didn't say fruit; He said the works. If you notice when talking to the righteous, the Lord will say, "Look, you will eat the fruit." But when talking to the wicked, He says, "You will take the reward for your works." Now, if you check through Scripture, you will see this play of words. You can use works too for the righteous. Is that not true? You can interchange them. I can say the fruit of the flesh, or I can say the works of the flesh. I can say the works of the Holy Spirit in the life of a man, or the fruit of the Spirit. You can interchange them actually, ordinarily. But you will notice that the Bible seems to use this trend because of a divine mind. Now, normally when the wicked do their works, the wicked normally think that their wickedness is hidden. When the wicked is doing wickedly, the motive for their wickedness is always concealed. They will act as if they are doing good. And then when they want to do their wickedness... the Bible says that the world don't love light. They hate light because their works is evil. So the wicked always need a cover to do wickedly. Good works normally come to light. So there's this mentality about the wicked that possibly certain things are not seen. So when God wants to speak to the wicked, God will make the wicked to know that the works, everything, there is no one that you will not face the consequences. But for the godly, many times, it is more of waiting for God to act for them. If somebody slaps you now and you don't slap back, you commit it to God. You expect that God will take up your case. That's the point that I'm making. Somebody has cheated you and they say, "Do him evil." You say, "No, I will... if my enemy is hungry, I will give him what to eat. When he's thirsty, I'll give him drink." They say, "You're not wise." So for the righteous, it's more like when they are living uprightly, it's more like sowing for a day when they will reap. So that is why Bible will always call that the righteous, "Don't worry, a harvest is coming for this fruit that you are sowing, just patiently continue." Whereas for the wicked, He says, "For your works, don't think I've not seen everything. I saw everything." Now, the point I've just made, we'll use it to look at Psalm 128. Turn your Bible to Psalm 128. I will appreciate that we read it in KJV, just verse one and two. Let's try KJV, NLT, NIV. KJV, who is reading for us? Psalm 128, verse one and two. [Reader] Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord, that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. [Speaker 1] Thank you. In King James version, it says, "Blessed is every one who feareth the Lord, who walk in His way, for you shall eat the labor of your hand." Another translation. [Speaker 2] NLT. "How joyful are those who fear the Lord, all who follow His ways. You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How joyful and prosperous you will be." [Speaker 1] Okay. Any other translation? [Speaker 3] NIV. "Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in His ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor. Blessing and prosperity will be yours." [Speaker 1] Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in His ways. You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessing and prosperity will be yours. So you notice when talking about those who fear the Lord, he didn't say they will get the reward for their works. He spoke in terms of what? Labor and fruit, as if they have sown, then they will reap. Do you get the point I'm making? Yeah. Now let me read it in New King James, and then we'll make some emphasis and then we will pray. Like I said, it's a specific burden. It says, "Blessed is every one who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways. When you eat the labor of your hands..." do you see the difference? The other one said, "You shall eat." This one says, "When you eat the labor of your hand, you shall be happy and it shall be well with you." I read this Scripture this morning, and then quickly I went to King James, and that was why I told you to read all of the translations. All other translations say, "For you shall." They made it a premise of one. But New King James did not make it that way. And that was where actually the matter started for me, but I started to check other translations. It said, "When you eat the labor of your hand, you shall be happy and it shall be well with you." I come this evening to emphasize to us and to assure us under the Lord. You see, living godly... Paul said something. He said those that will live godly in Christ, they will suffer persecution. Living godly, living uprightly has a lot of challenge that attends it or challenges that attend it, that go with it. Fearing the Lord and walking in His ways, particularly if we are to look around us today and to look at our nation. To fear the Lord, when it comes to fearing the Lord, I mean in everything you do. Sometimes, it will look as if in this nation you will not make it. And if you will make it, you may not make it in a big way; you will make it in a small way. What I mean is that the system around us today is not only corrupted; it's also corrupting. I mean the daily living of today. The Lord describes it in what He described with Peter. Second Peter, chapter 2. When He was talking about the righteous Lot. Remember that? Are you familiar with that reading? Please let's quickly read 2 Peter 2, talking about some things today in the land. Some things today happening in the land. Just to call our attention to some very important... when he was talking about righteous Lot. 2 Peter, chapter 2 from verse 7. Now, if you take it, please read from verse 5. [Reader] And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; and delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;) [Speaker 1] Do you get that? We read it back translation 7 and 8. "And delivered just Lot..." vexed. That word 'vexed,' I want you to note the meaning of vexed. He was distressed by what? By the filthy life of lawless men. For that righteous man dwelling among them, day and night, he vexed his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard. The Lord is saying that men who will be godly, men who will fear the Lord, honestly, the things that are going with us today and the things that keep intensifying, you will find a situation where their soul is what? Constantly vexed. Provoked, distressed by the lawlessness of wicked men. When you try to be godly, you are the one that will be denied promotion, while those ones who play the game of unrighteousness get double promotion. When you try to say, "No, let us not do this like this. This money that remains, we need to return it." They say, "No! Why must we return it?" You are the one that everybody thinks you are the wicked person in the office. What I'm trying to say is that looking around us today, and of course as things intensify in 2017, 2018, 2019, the lawless deed, the lawlessness of wicked men will keep taking trends and dimension that to be godly, to fear the Lord, will look like you will have no reward. And right now it looks like because you fear the Lord, you are losing certain things. It looks like, wow, what I ought to get I'm not getting it. The Lord is asking me to announce in this meeting that when I get here today, I should emphasize again that it doesn't matter the contradiction your soul may be facing. It doesn't matter the seemingly, "Ah, will this thing work? Will the fear of God really make things to go well with me?" If I keep holding to this my stand of godliness, am I sure that what is it going to look like? The Lord said, "Blessed is every one who fears the Lord." I should remind us again that blessed... it may look as if your soul is being vexed. It may look as if, "If I don't compromise a little... if I don't adjust this place so that at least I will not lose everything, I can still retain some." The Lord is saying blessed. The amplified said, "fortunate, enviable is every one who fears the Lord." The circumstance around us is telling us the man who fears the Lord is not blessed. The Lord said I should announce that Scriptures can never be broken. That blessed... it doesn't matter the circumstance around you, it doesn't matter it looks maybe because of the way I'm loving God, maybe if I reduce this my passion for God, maybe if I just moderate it, maybe I will not lose out. The Lord said I should announce, blessed. It looks frustrating, but I should announce to you, you are not frustrated. You are blessed. Every one who fears the Lord, it doesn't matter how their soul is vexed, it doesn't matter how the provocation of wicked men, how the filthy life of ungodly, how compromise and all kinds of ungodly conduct exhibited by people you call Christians. And you begin to watch that, "I thought this person is my brother. I thought this person is my sister. I could not have believed that... and I did it out of Christian love. Look at what He's... He did that." It don't seem like it will no more be good. The Lord says no, I should announce to you, your circumstance look frustrating, but you are blessed. Your situation looks... but I say the Lord asked me to announce this evening that blessed is every one who fears the Lord. That is the end. Every one of them, not some of them, not a few of them. You might have looked around and say, "Okay, but this person too fears the Lord and things seem to still move on. But me I'm not moving on." The Lord said I should announce to you, it's not some of them. He says it's every one of them. The Lord said I should call your attention to Isaiah, chapter 51. Isaiah, chapter 51. Are you there? Are you in Isaiah 51? He says whatever the situation is, let me read the NLT translation. It says, "Listen to me. Don't look at the situation. Don't look around you." It says, "Listen to me, all who hope for deliverance and all who seek the Lord. The Lord says, 'Consider the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were mined. Yes, think about Abraham your ancestor and Sarah who gave birth to your nation. Abraham was only one man when I called him, but when I blessed him, he became a great nation.'" The Lord says I should tell you, hearken to me! Listen to me! Don't feel broken, don't feel shattered, don't feel scattered! Don't lose your grip of godly conduct! Don't lose your grip of the hope of godly life! Don't lose your grip to the fear of God! Hold it tenaciously because blessed is every one who fears the Lord! He says, "Hearken unto me, you that follow after righteousness, you that seek the Lord, look unto the rock from which you were hewed, to the hole of the pit from which you are digged. Look unto Abraham your father, look unto Sarah that bore you, for I called him alone and blessed him and increased him. For the Lord shall comfort Zion. He will comfort all, not some, not some. I want you to underline this. I want you to hope to God on this matter. He says He will comfort all our waste places. He will make our wilderness like Eden, our desert like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving and the voice of melody." He says, "Hearken unto me my people, give ear unto me oh my nation, for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people. My righteousness is near, my salvation is gone forth." You may not believe that, but it is true. You may not be seeing what I'm telling you what is going on. The Lord said, "My righteousness is near, my salvation is gone forth and my hands will judge the people. The islands shall wait upon me and on my hand they shall trust." So blessed, I'm appealing to you, I'm calling your attention that the Lord says look unto me. Don't look away from what you are looking at. Maybe you already counting... last year you waited and waited and waited, nothing happened. This is about the third year now waiting, waiting. This thing, am I sure? But the first time I did... I don't know what you are looking at. But the Lord is saying, "Hearken unto me, you that know righteousness. If you know it, you know the fear of the Lord is in your heart, you have been holding to that fear. Things seems not to be working, it looks like others are gaining height over you." He says, "Hearken unto me you that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law. If the love of the Lord is in your heart, He says fear you not the reproach of men. Don't fear the reproach of men. "Varré!" "Wari!" "Oji aja!" "Sheoni Jesu Jesu ni won n tele." Don't fear the reproach of men. He says don't fear their reproach. Don't fear their insult, their mockery, their jesting. They will tell you to compromise and you will not compromise. Or it looks like look at... 'Nas!' has gone. Maybe I should follow 'Nas!' style. But you know it is not the path of godliness. You know it, you search your heart, you search your conscience and you know it is not right, you know it is not correct. The Lord says I should inform you, I should announce to you, hearken unto me. Listen to me. Look away from what you are looking at. Maybe you already counting. Last year you waited, waited, nothing happened. This is about the third year now waiting, waiting... This thing, am I sure? But the first time I did... I don't know what you are looking at. But the Lord is saying, "Hearken unto me, you that know righteousness. If you know you know righteousness, if you know the fear of the Lord is in your heart, hearken unto me. The people in whose heart is my law. Fear not the reproach of men, neither be afraid of their revilings." You know their revilings, their cursing, their threats. He says, "For the moth shall eat them up like garment." The reproach of men, the revilings of men concerning you shall be eaten up by moth like garment. He says the worm shall eat them like wool, but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation. I want you to just speak to the Lord before I move on. Speak to the Lord. That Lord, whatever the situation is. Lord, the revilings of men, the reproach of men, the revilings, the reproach, the expectations of men. Lord, as I hold to the fear of the Lord, as I cling to my God, as I hold to faith, as I cling to faith, the revilings of men, the reproaching of men, I speak concerning my life. I speak concerning my situation. The moth shall eat them up like garment. The worm shall consume them like wool. The worm, I decree concerning my life, the moth shall eat them up like garment. They shall be consumed like wool by worms. The revilings of men, the reproach of men over my life because of the faith, over my life because of the faith, over my life because of the faith, the expectations of men, the reproach of men, the revilings of men, I make a pronouncement today that over my life, the moth shall eat them up. The moth shall eat them up like garment. They shall be consumed like wool by worms. In the name of Jesus Christ! In the name of Jesus Christ! In the name of Jesus Christ! In the name of Jesus Christ! In the name of Jesus Christ! In the name of Jesus Christ! Thank you, Father. Let us turn our Bibles to Proverbs. Proverbs, chapter 23. Let's see verse 17 and 18 thereof. Proverbs 23, verse 17 and 18. Are you there? It says, I'll read you the KJV. "Let not thine heart envy sinners." I'm just telling you the things the Lord want me to raise with you when I was coming for this meeting. The Lord was telling me I'll be speaking specially to people. I might be speaking to somebody I don't know, but that was just the burden the Lord gave me and I just want to empty the burden as it came. He said I should tell you, "Let not thine heart envy sinners, but be thou in the fear of the Lord all day long." Don't leave that fear. Don't let your heart envy them. Don't desire their profit. Don't desire what they make from their ungodly conduct. Some of them may be pastors, some of them may be Christians, some of them may even be people you think should do right. He said don't envy sinners, but be thou in the fear of the Lord all day long. He said for surely there is an end and your expectation shall not be cut off. The amplified says, "Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the reverence and worshipful fear of the Lord all the day long. For surely there is a latter end, a future and a reward, and your hope and expectation shall not be cut off." NLT says, "Don't envy sinners, but always continue to fear the Lord. Don't envy sinners, but always continue to... stick to your gun. Be a true soldier, ready to die at your post. Stick to your gun. He says you will be rewarded for this; your hope will not be disappointed." I want you to just talk to the Lord. I want you to respond. These are clear words from the Lord. I want you to respond that Lord, because Thou art faithful, my expectations they will not fail. Lord, my expectation they will not fail. He says there is an end! There is an end! There is an end! Blessed is every one who fears the Lord. That is the end. The end of the matter is that blessed is every one who fears the Lord. The end of the matter, the end of the matter, is that everyone who fears the Lord will be blessed. The end of the matter is that there is a reward for those who fear the Lord. Thank you, Father. Thank you, Holy Spirit. Thank you, Jehovah. Thank you, Almighty God. Thank you, Almighty God. Thank you, Almighty God. Thank you, Jehovah. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray. Let us turn our Bibles to where we started from. Psalm 128. Psalm 128. Are you there? "Blessed is every one who fears the Lord, who walks in His ways." It says, "When you eat the labor of your hand..." the Lord is saying a time of harvest is coming. There is a 'when' over your life. A 'when' is coming. He said he makes all things beautiful in His time. There is a time, there's a set time. There's a set time for you. He say when you eat it! If you continue in this fear, there is a 'when.' There is a 'when.' And when you will eat the labor of your hand, you shall be happy. The frustration will soon be over. He say when you will eat the labor of your hand, you shall be happy. Not only will you be happy, the Lord will also preserve you to also see the reward of wicked. Because stolen waters will soon become gravel. Gravel in the mouth, gravel in the stomach. But for all who fear the Lord, when they will eat the labor of your hand, you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you. When you will eat it, there shall be the fact that you shall be happy, and it shall be well. You know what the Bible says? Say unto the righteous, tell them that the righteous... Why will it be well? The Lord said, he spoke to me and he said my eyes are still on the faithful in the land. He said the land abound with unfaithful men. That was the word the Lord told me. He said the land abound with unfaithful men, but my eyes are still on the faithful. Don't shift your ground from the place of your faithfulness. The land abound with unfaithful men. And what made me afraid when He was speaking to me was that He said, "Son, the land will yet abound more and more with unfaithfulness." He said it will yet abound. So as you are going down, down in 2017 and you are going down, down into it, you will still be seeing unfaithfulness in the Christian faith, or you will still be seeing more and more. What will be coming out of men will be faithlessness. Men will not please God because without it is impossible to please God. What you will see more will be faithlessness. What you will see more around you, unfaithful men will yet abound. He said, "But son, my eyes are still on the faithful in the land." My eyes are still on the faithful in the land. My eyes are still on the faithful in the land. I want to open the last Scripture we'll take today and we would close this meeting. That is in Psalm, Psalm 34. Please let's turn to Psalm 34. Psalm 34. Oh sorry, I was in Psalm 38. Just verse 9 and verse 10. That's the message of the Lord for us as we look into the situation in the land today. The Lord said, I'm reading King James version. He say, "Oh fear the Lord, ye His saints, for there is no want to them that fear Him." There's recession in the land, there's economic downturn in the land. The Lord is telling us what should be our own economic strategy. Your own economic strategy is not to begin to do fraudulent business. Not to begin to gather fraudulent wealth. Not to begin to get fraudulent certificates. That is not your way out! For the saints, that is not your way out! Your way out is not to envy the wicked. The Lord said I should announce, He say, "Oh," you see the 'oh' coming at the beginning? He say, "Oh, oh, oh," so many saints are leaving this principle. That was the announcement I heard in my heart this morning. There's so many saints are leaving this principle. He say but oh, oh, if only we will understand that our way out is to fear the Lord. If only we will understand that our way out of the economic press, no salary for five months, no this here, no that there and we are thinking no, there is no any other way out for the saint. If the saint leave this part of the fear of the Lord, they only walk in the part of death. He say, "Oh fear the Lord, ye His saints, for there is no want to them that fear Him." Verse 10, "The young lions do lack and suffer hunger, but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing." The young lions do lack. Ordinarily, lion is the king of the jungle, so his children should not lack because their mother is the king in the jungle. He say but even young lion they do lack. Sometimes, even to the king, there is no food. What He say is that even the powerful will find themselves falling this period. People of economic might, people you think, "Ah, awon eleyi, eya ole ja won mo," and you have concluded me, "Emi o, iya lo ma je emi, kini mo ni?" The Lord is saying even such people they do lack. They do lack. And they do suffer hunger. Economy is being shaken. They are throwing bankers out of their job. They are throwing oil workers out of their job. They are saying they are reorganizing, they are retrenching workers. You that have not even got a job, how will you feed? All of this is made to make you understand something. Men who think that they will feed are getting out of their jobs. Choose the fear of the Lord. There is no want to them that fear Him. Respond to the Lord, respond to the Lord, respond to the Lord this evening. "I choose the fear of the Lord. I choose the fear of the Lord in the face of what the nation is facing today, in the face of what the nation is experiencing, I choose the fear of the Lord.
